The Resistance 2 private BETA is now live. In a surprise move, Insomniac Games sent out invites via electronic mail to a very limited number of PlayStation 3 owners today.

Enter their site (linked above) by putting in your date of birth and enter your PSN ID into the "BETA Info" section. You may get lucky and find out that you're approved early to start the Private BETA now. If you're in, you can go ahead and download the BETA client from the PlayStation Store now.

Otherwise keep checking back. You can get a guaranteed spot into the Public BETA next month by subscribing to a year's subscription to QORE, or by pre-ordering the game. Pre-order bonus codes will be given out at a later date.

And a fun fact: If you've got a friend playing the R2 Private BETA, they'll show up on your friends list as playing "Girl With a Stick," an old Insomniac Games project that was canned before they moved on to Ratchet & Clank.

This tool, although in beta stage, allows you to unscramble the blocks of a PS3 dumps moving them in a way that the dumps become readable and extractable!

It's for study and tests purposes, for experienced people only (devs) that this way can manage the files inside the flashes.

As example I included my PS3 dump map, it should help you understanding the dump layout.

Download: PS3 NAND Flow Rebuilder v3.21 BETA

I decided to share the tool early because it need a lot of testing, so, since I'll be in vacation in a few days I thought it would be nice to allow people to begin looking at it meanwhile I return home.

I tested it on like 10 dumps and I noticed that it perfectly worked only on 4 dumps (one was a Debug dump so yes, it works on debug dumps too :), this happen because of the fact I noticed I have to implement another variable in the unscrambling al... More »

The annual Electronic Entertainment Expo is just around the corner, and the gaming industry as well as the fans are excited to find out what major announcements software and hardware developers will make this year.

There will undoubtedly be some big new titles announced, as well as some nuggests of information about games we already know are in the works. Here are the five PS3 games that we are most excited about, as well as some questions that we hope developers can answer on the show floor in Los Angeles two weeks from now.

1. Fallout 3

This hybrid RPG/first-person shooter has players exploring the familiar post-apocalyptic universe of Fallout. Set in a creepy “what if” version of 1950s America, the series has garnered praise for its complex plot lines, incredible environments and interactions with NPCs. Fallout 3 will bring the experience into the next gen, with an epic, open world to explore, a new action-oriented battle system, and tons... More »

Even as the current console generation marches on, PlayStation 2 sales and software both have kept reliably chugging like a newly-slimlined little Energizer Bunny. But Sony's fiscal 2008 annual report shows that both PS2 hardware and software have begun to demonstrate a decline.

Sony sold .98 million fewer PS2s than it did over last fiscal year, and PS2 software sales are down 39.5 million units year-over-year, too.

According to the report, Sony is planning on continuing decline for the PS2 in its ninth year since release. "However, on the back of worldwide hardware expansion, there are plans for a diversified portfolio of software titles to be released, and, thus, Sony will strive to maintain the scale of this business," said the company.

How are Sony's other platforms stacking up? Chart, and more delicious numbers, after the jump.

Still, though, PS2 software sales dominated over PS3 and PSP software, with almost three times as many ... More »

A Harvard University dropout who ushered in the home computer age and made billions of dollars along the way will have his last official day of work at Microsoft on 27 June.

Three people will essentially fill the void left behind when Bill Gates retires from the company he and friend Paul Allen co-founded in 1975.

Since Gates began his transition from leading Microsoft to heading his personally-bankrolled charity, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, his job as chief software architect has been handled by Ray Ozzie.

Craig Mundie inherited Gates' chief research and strategy officer duties, while former Harvard classmate Steve Ballmer became chief executive officer at the Seattle-based software colossus.

Gates left Harvard after two years to found the firm that became global powerhouse Microsoft. He later received honorary degrees from Harvard and other universities.

After retiring, Gates will remain chairman o... More »

Konami has announced that a free downloadable add-on for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots will be made available on PS3 on Thursday (June 26th) in Europe.

The Metal Gear Solid 4 Database is a comprehensive archive detailing characters, weapons and plot elements from 1987’s original Metal Gear title right through to the most recent title.

According to Konami, the system allows users to search via three central hubs: GENE (a glossary), MEME (which maps the relationships between characters in the series), and SCENE (a timeline for the series).

Users can jump from page to page using specific keywords, with the relevant information appearing instantly. All information relating to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, however, can only be accessed when the software detects a save data file created when the game has been completed, as to avoi...
