Bu-nyan has coded the first Nintendo emulator in BD-J format for the PlayStation 3, dubbed "PS3Filer Ver 0.0.3".
This java application has basic key input through the SixAxis controller. There isn't sound yet, but this is a good start.
This application also displays PNG, JPEG and GIF files.
Download: PS3 NES Emu (BD-J) (PS3Filer Ver 0.0.3)
Check the video where it shows the Super Mario Bros. ROM running at decent speed.
To quote: I found out earlier today that this a NES emulator! Here is how to get it running.
1. Download the file
2. Extract the the folder in the compressed file to the main root of a USB device or memory stick
3. Place the ROMs you would like to play into the main folder you have just extracted to the root
4. Go to the Video section in the XMB on your P... More »
What better way to celebrate your PS3 turning 1 year old than to open up the console, see what approximately 4000 hours of potential dust looks like, and then give it a clean! pumba512 did just that on the official PS boards (linked above).
To quote: So, my PS3 turned 1 not long ago.. so.. I decided to see what 1 year (about 4,000 hrs) of dust looks like in it, and to give it a clean.
This is a Aus 60gig, always been horizontal. (I have vacuumed the vents every week (give or take), and dust it off with a microfibre cloth almost religiously.. Never used compressed air on it)
It's home for starters (carpet floor).. So after that I have to say it wasn't as bad as I thought. But there was a lot of fine dust in it, and only a little bit of a clump under the fan on the cpu/gpu heatsink part, nothing but fine dust on the heatsink fins.
Bottom casing was very dusty (also found little bugs a mosquito..and a hair... yeah I dunno..) top o... More »
Capcom Japan has released the first photo of Smallville's Kristin Kreuk as Chun Li in Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li. As you can see, she's neither wearing her usual blue dress or have her hair wrapped in her trademark cute buns.
Fans shouldn't be surprised, however; the new Street Fighter film hopes to take the video game adaptation more seriously this time around instead of the Van Damme cheeseboulder that snuck up on the world in 1994 like one of Dhalsim's sly reacharounds. We're following Chun Li as she scours Thailand as a street fighter to find her father's killer, M. Bison (Neal McDonough).
Quick note: I don't know how, but she actually looks identical to how I imagined she would look when they announced the project—A dirty street fighter in Thailand, delving into the mucky muck. Street fighting isn't exactly a colorful world with costumes and junk.
Don't worry, though, because one of the storyboards released shows her with... More »
As promised, below you will find a video of our PS3 TEST SD Launcher. The quality is not great nor was there sound, but it's the best capture from the old camera we have so we improvised and added a tune in the background.
A video capture of the PS3 would have been much clearer, but we wanted to show the PS3 in the video as well. It starts from the XMB, and allows non-NPDRM SELF's to be executed from SD card.
In the video you can see the SD Launcher loading and booting to the select screen. There is the ability to "move" throughout the list, and upon hovering on your slot of choice, pressing X.
At the moment the titles and locations are hardcoded, we need to add in support for reading either a filelist or the PARAM.SFO's.
The real impressive part of the video is in regards to the Ridge Racer 7 Demo. We obtained the Ridge Racer 7 Demo from an Official PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc. Upon r... More »
XVISTAMAN2005 has discovered a method HERE which allows Retail PS3 console owners to install PS3 Debug Firmware on them... however, before considering attempting this PS3 "HDD Swap" be sure to read below.
Upon following the instructions your retail PS3 console will update to a partial Debug/Test console. Partial is stated because upon doing it the PS3 will possess what is pictured below, specifically non-functioning Debug options.
Debug PKG files won't install, port 1000 is open but you can't connect to it, and the PS3 no longer plays Blu-ray movies. Additionally, the Sony S... More »

Competition becomes even more vital in an industry that is technology driven. It's quite amazing that Moore's law, which states that computing power doubles every 18 months, still holds true.
This rapid evolution is primarily driven by competition. People are constantly trying to outdo each other. Consoles typically have a shelf life of about five to six years. What would happen without competition?
Where did the Genesis go? What happened with the PlayStation 2? Having nightmares yet?
In other words, we would potentially skip a whole generation of hardware. So what would make this such a likely scenario? Because when no competition exists, then you have a situation where a company's bottom line is less aligned with consumer needs.
As an example, Nintendo was once clearly dominating the market with the NES. While the Sega Master system was on the market, it had less than 5% marketshare. Nintendo was so comfortable in their positio... More »
We mentioned in previous Site News posts that we're working on converting a Retail PS3 into a Debug PS3.. and we have some updated news on the process to share today.
For starters, we had quite a delay. Our PS3 Devs have been using an expensive external programmer to do the job, however, these dumps differed than the dumps from the Infectus chip. It was quite a puzzling issue indeed.. which was the proper dump?!
After many hours of examination spanning over a few weeks time, it turns out the external programmer was the culprit! The software that the manufacturer provided had a flaw in it that would drop certain bytes, resulting in a corrupt dump missing OOB 64 bytes of data. Luckily our PS3 Devs managed to find and correct the initial problem, so a big THANKS to them!
Once that was sorted, testing began by modifying both the IPL and METLDR..... More »
Nintendo’s latest entrant into the console war has no doubt been the company’s most successful entry since the original Nintendo Entertainment System in the 80s. The Wii has managed to continually sell out in stores since its release in November of 2006. In just a meager year and half, its already managed to outsell its predecessor, the Gamecube.
It shattered the PS2’s record of selling 10 million consoles in the US by a near 4 months. It currently holds the most market share out of the next gen systems. Nintendo, without a doubt, must be extremely proud of Miyamoto’s latest brain child.
That being said, there is something seriously wrong with the Nintendo Wii. No, its not that it doesn’t have the graphical capabilities of the 360/PS3. Nor is it the lackluster online service Nintendo provides either. It isn’t the paltry amount of hard drive space, sometimes unresponsive accelerometers of the nunchuck, or even the chuckle-inspiring name of the conso... More »
For those of you whom have not yet given up on the MGSO Beta like many people I have talked to, it has finally started. All the interuptions and delays aside, it is here at last and.. Well, I'll let Kotakuite JP describe it for me:
It's great.
Before you go rushing into the game I'm afraid there is yet another patch you have to download on top of the monolothic 1.1 patch so.. Well, if like me you haven't even done the first patch yet you should start soon.
If you're lucky you might get it done before the end of the Beta.
Below is a video showing a CoD4 hack demonstrating someone being killed by invisible players.
It comes to us courtesy of excursel via YouTube..
Enjoy!
