Below is a video of it in action, displaying some of the new features. As expected, we can confirm from 2.40 onwards, the system software can be called any time during the gameplay. It appears the in-game XMB does not work while playing PS2 titles, probably the same with PS1 titles as well although we didn't have a PS1 game handy to try.
The video is slightly better quality than the previous PS3 TEST SD Launcher 1.00 Video as video capture was used this time instead of our old camera... as there is no need to view the TEST PS3 in the video this round.
Anyway, more soon... enjoy the video!
Here are the instructions on downloading torrents directly to the PS3 via TorrentRelay, please use with caution and intelligence:
1. Find a torrent file link.
2. Copy .torrent link (ie: www.mininova.org/get/########)
3. Go to http://torrentrelay.com
4. Click on the 2nd input box with [Get URL] next to it, and type in the link from step #2.
5. Click on [Get URL].
6. Click on the file you want. It will list all the files available on the torrent.
7. Save As dialog should pop up.
8. We only tried an MP3, and it was downloaded directly into the Music folder. Video below:
Note: This really isn't good for the torrent community since the PS3 cannot seed files, but it's interesting that it's possible.
Download: PS3 NAND Dump Interleaver v1.40
PS3 NANDS are read and written interleaved, so if someone wants to check the Firmware content he have to use this tool in order to obtain a file that's like the console manage once we turn it on.
It's for study purposes, to allow skilled people to check the PS3 Firmware.
Some notes: Only full dumps should be used with this tool, old dumps without spare data are invalid so they won't output a valid result.
Swap bytes should be enabled, other checkmarks are there for study purposes.
Beware, almost all files are crypted! ...good study :)
NDT ;-)
A video capture of the PS3 would have been much clearer, but we wanted to show the PS3 in the video as well. It starts from the XMB, and allows non-NPDRM SELF's to be executed from SD card.
In the video you can see the SD Launcher loading and booting to the select screen. There is the ability to "move" throughout the list, and upon hovering on your slot of choice, pressing X.
At the moment the titles and locations are hardcoded, we need to add in support for reading either a filelist or the PARAM.SFO's.
The real impressive part of the video is in regards to the Ridge Racer 7 Demo. We obtained the Ridge Racer 7 Demo from an Official PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc. Upon r... More »

We hinted on this in previous PS3 Dev postings, but now it deserves a post of its own. We have successfully obtained the decrypted ELF file from an encrypted SELF that we ran, then dumped using the PlayStation 3.
As you can see in the image below, there is an ELF file, totally decrypted from the retail game disc! This removes BOTH the disc layer of encryption on the EBOOT.BIN, as well as the file layer of encryption.
In other recent PS3 Dev news, we have managed to successfully downgrade a PlayStation 3 without utilizing a previous flash dump backup of the console. Normally to downgrade your PS3 you first need a copy of the original firmware (made with Infectus). However our method does not need any flash backup, as it uses the PS3's updates to downgrade for us.
Keep in mind it's still a work in progress, but expect additional details on this project as they become available. Look for more information coming this w... More »

As outlined in our Past News last night, the recent 'ICE' PS3 hack claim turned out to be just another PS3 hangup resulting with a black screen- useless!
Today, the same ICE lamers (alec, streetskaterfu, iqd) have been childishly pestering the @ps in iRC EFnet #PS3News (primarily CJPC) with the infamous "Source Code" (helloworld_source.zip - 2.82 KB (2,894 bytes)) of their alleged PS3 'hack'... you know, the one with the video showing nothing but a black screen. :)
After getting bored humoring them for awhile, we decided to reveal that their 'hack' Source Code is ironically 100% identical code (with the exception of a printf to their lameass page) as this IBM Code that has been published back in 2006.... More »

On iRC EFnet #PS3News tonight 'Team ICE' (alec, streetskaterfu, iqd) approached CJPC showing him a video (below) of a 2007 R:FOM crash/hang/lag in which they falsely claim "OMFG we can hack/run unsigned code 9111!" :D
Both the claim/video are worth about as much as the recently released P3DXLoad Video, however, the tards are posting:
"First we found an exploit to run SELF files in gameos. Then we coded an application which converts ELF files into runable SELF files. We can load these with our exploit. The coding is not finished, we still have to clean the code, that we will get an screen output. The SELF files are running, but screen doesnt show this atm. When this is fixed we could release a "hello world"."
Sadly, this is false and an utter waste of time. F... More »
