Guys,

I need a little help from the community, if possible i'd like to have from all of you uploaded somewhere (example: rapidshare) the first 2048KB of the HDD partition. Specifically i need a test conducted this way:

Power up the ps3, go to the formatting utility, and format the ps3 HDD with the option of 10GB for the ps3 system.

Power off the ps3, remove the hard disk, attach it to the PC and dump the first 2048KB.

Compress the 2048 with the program you actually prefer (rar, zip whatever) and upload and post a link here.

For the dumping part winhex (for windows) or dd (unix and windows), if any problem or question rise, feel free to contact me or other devs, thanks a... More »

The retail counterpart is rumored to be released during mid to late June, however, recently we had a chance to check out PS3 Debug/TEST Firmware v2.40 (116 MB - 122,268,311 bytes).

Below is a video of it in action, displaying some of the new features. As expected, we can confirm from 2.40 onwards, the system software can be called any time during the gameplay. It appears the in-game XMB does not work while playing PS2 titles, probably the same with PS1 titles as well although we didn't have a PS1 game handy to try.

The video is slightly better quality than the previous PS3 TEST SD Launcher 1.00 Video as video capture was used this time instead of our old camera... as there is no need to view the TEST PS3 in the video this round.

Anyway, more soon... enjoy the video!

Below is a compliation of the 10 things we want to upon first loading up GTA IV. In no particular order, here goes:

Play Cops 'N Crooks Multiplayer
For the first time in the Grand Theft Auto series, we'll be able to hop on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network to compete against others in a number of activities. Do you feel like taking part in a race through the city, or perhaps you're up for a little group criminal activity? We're eager to see what options Rockstar has in store for us – it'll almost be as addictive as that World of Warcraft game, but with machine guns.

Be a Bad-ass Criminal
In the Grand Theft Auto universe, it feels good having the whole world against you. Like previous games, GTA IV will give you the option to become America's most wanted in a matter of minutes. Shoot down a police chopper, knock down a cop and steal his squad car. Just don't be surprised when they finally bring you down in epic fashion. You had it coming.

When Microsoft announced its multimillion deal with Rockstar for exclusive downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV, many predicted that this would provide a significant incentive for gamers to choose the Xbox 360 version of the game over the PlayStation 3 version.

But Australian presale figures seem to be telling a different story, with major retailers contacted by GameSpot AU today saying that the PS3 version was currently in the lead.

A spokeswoman for EB Games Australia--the largest specialty games retailer in the country--told GameSpot AU that the PS3 version of GTAIV was just ahead of the 360 in terms of presales. "We are happy to tell you it's neck and neck, but at the moment, PlayStation 3 is currently in the lead," EB Games Australia brand and public relations manager Debra McGrath said.

The PS3 version was even farther ahead with retailer Gametraders. The company's national marketing manager Chad Polley said, "According to the figur... More »

Rockstar sent out an email this evening to all those in the UK scheduled to receive their copies of GTA IV this week, asking them to provide information on which platform they’d prefer to play on and their online IDs.

The email’s published in full below:

Hi there,

The good news is we are planning to send out your copy of GTA IV tomorrow, Wednesday 23rd April, to be with you first thing on Thursday 24th, so the wait is almost over.

In order for us to do that, could you:

- Let us know which format you would prefer to receive the game on?
- Let us know your Gamertag, if the answer to the above is Xbox 360 or your PSN On Line ID if the answer is PS3.

Why we need to know.

Xbox 360 Version

We need your Gamertag because Microsoft will be helping Rockstar Games monitor access to the online modes up to release date. Because of this, we will need to add your Gamertag to the app... More »

There's been a lot of inquiries made lately about Grand Theft Auto 4, PlayStation 3's multiplayer mode, and what types of games it will support. Among the hot topics are whether or not split-screen action will be available.

The answer? Don't bet on it.

Stephen Totilo of the MTV Multiplayer blog has posted recently that the feature just isn't there. He says he learned of this from Rockstar Games itself as he played a Devkit version of the game via a local network in the developer's New York City office.

The blogger points out that limitations in hardware is a probable reason for the feature being omitted. He reasons that the sheer size of Liberty City being rendered split-screen may be a bit too much even with the hardware of the Xbox 360 and the PS3. He also points out that the feature seems less essential in an age when most people who'll be playing GTA 4 can easily have multiplayer action online.

Hello.. today we release a PlayStation 3 Security Architecture PDF document to the public. We still are doing some work on PS3 KeyVault Project, so still not ready yet.

For the PDF.. this is not for newbies sorry. Target Audience: Deep knowledge of CBEA SOC, Sony PlayStation 3 hardware logic, security, encryption/decryption and secure boot dynamics is the minimum to understand the parts of this document.

Thanks to all the stuff of http://www.PS3News.com, without their support this documentation would not be possible, thanks also to Sony for all the nice patents. :)

Say so long to those delay rumors. While word has yet to come on whether Take-Two will accede to Electronic Arts' $2 billion acquisition offer, one scenario that will not occur is analysts' speculated delay of Grand Theft Auto IV.

During Take-Two's shareholders' meeting today, the publisher said that GTAIV has gone gold. The game is "in production and in trucks en route to retailers," proclaimed Take-Two CEO Ben Feder. Rated M for Mature, GTAIV will be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on April 29.

Though it won't be released for another 12 days, industry watchers have already projected a massive debut from the next installment in Rockstar North's prized franchise. Last October, Janco Partner's Mike Hickey projected global opening-week sales of more than 9.5 million, with 5.8 million units turning up in US consumers' hands alone.

Earlier this week, Variety reported that sources within Take-Two fully expect the game to sell some 6 ... More »
