However, while there are pros to this situation in that more people will be able to play these games, is there a downside to all of this?
I certainly think so, and it lies with one simple notion: That by continuing to persuade these third party companies to make the franchises that made the Playstation 2 the clear winner multiplatform and giving MS exclusive perks, Microsoft is instead hurting their own credibility and admitting that without these franchises, they can't compete as well as they would if they didn't have them.
Now, before you flame me for being a PS3 fanboy (I'm not) and dismiss this as "flame bait", hear me out on this one.
As a company, you wouldn't want to admit defeat at any point in your time. Of course, the f... More »
While Platinum trophies used to look like a bizarre purple crown, the new version (pictured below) looks more like a sports trophy made of crystal.
To quote from Radiskull's comment HERE below:
"I've noticed 2 things with this 2.41 so far. The in-game XMB lag seems to be gone (at least for me), and the Platinum Trophy icon on the trophies page has a new look. It was previously a crown, and now it looks like a globe. Pic of it below."
“The PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) system software version 2.41 is now available for update from July 8, 2008. With this update, we have fixed the problem that prevented a limited number of PS3s from activating properly after updating to version 2.40, when certain system administrative data were contained on the HDD.
For those users who have updated to version 2.40 and have experienced the problem that XMB™(XrossMediaBar) is not appearing, or no images are displaying on the screen, please contact Customer Service.
We have confirmed that for those users who have successfully updated to the version 2.40 and are able to activate the PS3 system, this problem will not occur on your PS3.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you and appreciate your un... More »

1. Brand Loyalty (Equals Fanboyism)
Whatever you do, never say you love [insert favorite console here] instead of the PS3/Xbox 360/Wii/PSP/DS for fear of being branded as a fanboy. You’ll be instantly drowned in hate messages from other people defending their PS3/Xbox 360/Wii/PSP/DS (aka other fanboys). I think of fanboyism as brand loyalty. Variations also include ATI vs Nvidia.
2. Microsoft sucks
Anything with Microsoft (or Vista) in the headline and defaming the company is a surefire way to get attention. Who cares if its chairman is the largest donator to charity. So what if almost everyone uses Windows, Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer (although Firefox is gaining). The point is they can’t do an... More »

Cammie Dunaway of Nintendo of America has said that they have seen their Wii inventory start to improve over the last few weeks.
"We see entirely new demographics coming into video gaming," said Cammie Dunaway of Nintendo of America.
"It makes us excited about the year ahead. We continue to be committed to getting as many into the marketplace as we can." said Dunaway.
Analysts had previously predicted the inventory would improve to support the release of big games such as Wii Fit and Boom Blox in May.

Ben Heck put his skills to good use again in his latest project. This time he has turned a PS3 into a Laptop.
There aren't any details as of yet, only the picture shown below.
To quote: It looks like the PS3 is finally getting some hot mod love from console modding's reigning wizard, Ben Heck. We don't really have all the details since he hasn't announced the project yet, but the display looks like it's the one he used for the Xbox 360 Elite laptop, for a true 720p picture.
He's obviously been leveling up his already formidable powers though, 'cause this is one of his most polished projects yet.

The CR-5300 adapter features support for both PSP models (PSP-1000 and PSP-2000 series) and will be available for purchase from European retailer Rejoy.se next month.
The unit is expected to cost around £12. For comparison, a 4GB microSDHC card can be found at Amazon for £7 whereas a 4GB Pro Duo costs around £22. However, major retailers including Amazon.com are not taking pre-orders for the product as of yet.
