Just posting to give all you footy fans a heads up that the demo for FIFA Soccer 09 will be hitting the PlayStation Store both sides of the pond tomorrow.

I played the demo back in August and I have to say the guys at EA Sports seem to have a good thing going with their last three footy games and are pretty much on couse to beat PES 2009 and reclaim the footy crown.

FIFA fan or not get the demo and try it, all those PES fans who haven’t played the last few games are in for a bit of a shock. Oh yeah and the image topping the post is the official UK cover art, nice.

The full game is released on 3rd of October.

Note: PES fans should turn the passing assists to ‘manual’ and shooting assists to ’semi’ if they want the true FIFA experience. The game is much better then.

From the beginning of time, Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers have been dueling about who’s console is the more graphically powerful. In these skirmishes, terms like CPU, GPU, and RAM have been thrown around, but now those folks on the PS3 side of the fray have another weapon in their arsenal: disc format.

You may think that disc size has absolutely nothing to do with graphical quality of games. It all has to do with the raw power of the console’s CPU, RAM, etc., you might say; the discs are just used to store the data that is pushed through the processors. Yes, but no. Let me explain.

The Xbox 360 version of the upcoming first person shooter Rage will be shipping on two DVDs. The PS3 version, however, will fit on one Blu-ray disc. Developer id Software’s John Carmack says that the PS3 version of the game will look much better. Why? Because of the limitations of the DVD.

Apparently, the company will be using a “different type of compressio... More »

The update is supposed to drop this week (Thursday, July 31st). Other testers will not be invited until the closed BETA testers try it out first.

The update will not come as a patch, but rather a unique code sent to your email and redeemed via Account Management in your XMB.

HOME will then be part of the XMB rather than under the GAME section on your XMB.

To begin this week's PS3 Dev briefing, we want to give a follow-up in regards to the PS3 Downgrade PUP's for PS3 TEST/Debug consoles we recently acquired.

Yes, it does work fine, and we have successfully downgraded a PS3 Test to version 1.00! Version 1.00 is quite neutered for a TEST, about the only thing that works is the ability to run code from a DVD/BD, aside from that just about everything is non-functional.

More to come in those regards, including our ability to install and dump Retail PKG's on a Debug PS3 console!

Now onto the rumors: As we all know, many have been trying (but failing terribly) to dump the EEPROM chip inside the PS3's controller.

Our very own talented Courier successfully removed and dumped the chip, a picture o... More »

To quote from Eric Lempel (Director, PlayStation Network Operations) via the PlayStation Blog yesterday: As many of you know, we released PS3 Firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that Firmware Update v2.41 will be released shortly.

That being said, those interested can grab PS3 Firmware v2.41 below!

We have had quite a few requests as to how the BD-Emulator on a PS3 TEST console works, and thought the best way to show how it works is through a video!

After formatting a USB HDD (in this case, a 500GB EIDE Drive hooked to the PS3 via an old USB CDROM enclosure) in the PS3, it is transferred to a PC. Once transferred, a properly decrypted, patched and remastered retail game is written to the drive. The drive is then plugged back in via USB to the PS3 TEST, while off.

The Drive is then turned on, followed by the PS3. Once the PS3 is on the BD-Emulator is set to USB. DEV is for a PS3 TOOL, which has an additional internal HDD for BD-Emulator purposes, and BD Drive is self explanatory. The PS3 then gets rebooted.

Upon reboot is where the video starts, it first shows the previous settings in the PS3, and then the game that was remastered, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is started from BD-Emulator. The BD-Emulator ... More »

A lot has gone on, and nothing has gone on lately. Let's start with the nothing part first since it's shorter... we really have no monumental progress to report at the moment. Why? Simple, everything the resident PS3 Devs are working on is still a work-in-progress... when there is news we will post it.

So what is the "a lot" part that has gone on lately? Mostly stuff that may eventually lead to newsworthy progress. I myself have recently acquired nearly 1GB of new Sony goodies to play with, and I have been spending much of my freetime examining a lot of the included documentation.

One interesting thing we recently found out is that Sony has released a NEW model PS3 TEST. It is the DECHJ00J/DECHJ00A. It is supported in SDK version 2.17 and later, and features a 40GB Hard Disk Drive, and two USB ports. Like its retail counterpart, it also lacks PS2 hardware, so it can not play PS2 games.

I've also been working with another PS3 Dev on getting Pr... More »
