What does that mean for us gamers, exactly? It means the prime (hah) talents behind Metroid are now free to develop games for non-Nintendo platforms.
The devs heading Armature Studios - Mark Pacini, Todd Keller and Jack Matthews, (who were the former Game Director, Art Director, and Principal Tech Engineer of the Metroid franchise, respectively) - have expressed interest in the PS3 and 360. Says Pacini:
From my stand point, I've never worked on any other console. I've always made games for Nintendo. I'm reinvigorated. I'm really excited about what other opportunities are out there. How can we use Xbox Live? How can we use the power of the PS3?

In further bleak news, as part of an ongoing initiative to “maximize its development resources and apply manpower and capital to projects with the highest chances of success,” approx. 90 of all 130 employees employed by the studio will be laid off.

As many of you may already know or have deduced, the bug in our open letter referred to a way of reading DVD-Rs (and Video DVDs) without the use of a modchip. Several people have investigated the bug independently, and they’ve gotten pretty close. This program will do the following, automatically:
- Download IOS11 from the Nintendo Update Server
- Patch it to remove the MEM2 protection (so the PPC can access all 64MB of it)
- Patch it to allow it to delete itself later using ES_DeleteTitle()
- Find an unused IOS slot (counting downward from IOS255)
- Install the hacked IOS11 there
- Reboot into the hacked IOS
- Copy the private key structure from the IOS address space into MEM1

To begin this week's PS3 Dev briefing, we want to give a follow-up in regards to the PS3 Downgrade PUP's for PS3 TEST/Debug consoles we recently acquired.
Yes, it does work fine, and we have successfully downgraded a PS3 Test to version 1.00! Version 1.00 is quite neutered for a TEST, about the only thing that works is the ability to run code from a DVD/BD, aside from that just about everything is non-functional.
More to come in those regards, including our ability to install and dump Retail PKG's on a Debug PS3 console!
Now onto the rumors: As we all know, many have been trying (but failing terribly) to dump the EEPROM chip inside the PS3's controller.

Two videos allegedly of the next-gen Jak and Daxter for PS3 have made their way to YouTube courtesy of JakandDaxterMaster.
The videos are dubbed "Jak: The Lost Frontier?" but game developer Naughty Dog has yet to make any official confirmation nor comment.
Chances are if they are legitimate, they will be pulled from YouTube soon so be sure to check them out below... while you can :P

With the hot news I saw I had to do something! Swap Magic on PS3 running? I thought it was patched, and indeed so, but only on US/Jap consoles.. I tried several swap magic (SM from now), but none worked... and this is becaused it IS patched, on fw 2.10 and up.
So I thought... if they patched a specific title, they seem they haven't patched others... so I found that I can create a bootable PS2 disc and I made one. I added many useful PS2 ELFs (not all useful for now..) but we have what we need. Ok, first the proof and then tutorial:
This method using an original SM disk has been already posted.. but never actully confirmed how or when SM works.. The method with an ORIGINAL SM DISC works only on EUROPEAN PS3s any FW, except 40gb p... More »
