Well respected Acclaim boss David Perry has stated that because sony has sold the PS3 at a lost, they basically have no chance of making money on the PlayStation 3.

He added "if they release the PlayStation 4 and have an even more expensive console and raise the cost of games by ten dollars, that would not be good."

To quote: "Because of the cost of making the PlayStation 3 and because they sold it at a loss, Sony basically has pretty much no chance of making money on the PS3, because it's lost more money than they made during the entire peak of the PlayStation 2 - it's not going to happen again for Sony,” stated Perry.

"If they release the PlayStation 4 and have an even more expensive console and raise the cost of games by ten dollars, that would not be good," he added.

From the beginning of time, Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers have been dueling about who’s console is the more graphically powerful. In these skirmishes, terms like CPU, GPU, and RAM have been thrown around, but now those folks on the PS3 side of the fray have another weapon in their arsenal: disc format.

You may think that disc size has absolutely nothing to do with graphical quality of games. It all has to do with the raw power of the console’s CPU, RAM, etc., you might say; the discs are just used to store the data that is pushed through the processors. Yes, but no. Let me explain.

The Xbox 360 version of the upcoming first person shooter Rage will be shipping on two DVDs. The PS3 version, however, will fit on one Blu-ray disc. Developer id Software’s John Carmack says that the PS3 version of the game will look much better. Why? Because of the limitations of the DVD.

Apparently, the company will be using a “different type of compressio... More »

What better way to celebrate your PS3 turning 1 year old than to open up the console, see what approximately 4000 hours of potential dust looks like, and then give it a clean! pumba512 did just that on the official PS boards (linked above).

To quote: So, my PS3 turned 1 not long ago.. so.. I decided to see what 1 year (about 4,000 hrs) of dust looks like in it, and to give it a clean.

This is a Aus 60gig, always been horizontal. (I have vacuumed the vents every week (give or take), and dust it off with a microfibre cloth almost religiously.. Never used compressed air on it)

It's home for starters (carpet floor).. So after that I have to say it wasn't as bad as I thought. But there was a lot of fine dust in it, and only a little bit of a clump under the fan on the cpu/gpu heatsink part, nothing but fine dust on the heatsink fins.

Bottom casing was very dusty (also found little bugs a mosquito..and a hair... yeah I dunno..) top o... More »

The following appears to confirm the rumored Xbox 360 price cuts, check out the new promotional price showing on-screen.

To quote: This picture is confirmation of the earlier Ars Technica article from an informant stating that the Xbox 360 would drop it's price in September to $199.99 for the Core, $299.99 for the 60GB model, and $399.99 for the 120GB Elite model. This picture shows nearly irrefutable proof that those rumors are substantiated, and are set to happen in just over a month.

Calculating the Impact of the $199.99 Price Point
Microsoft has been no stranger to the $199.99 price point. In interviews, high brass officials from Microsoft have stated they are 'very aware' that the $199.99 is the sweet spot for console sales. Earlier this year, a weakening Xbox 360 had it's price re-vamped to the 199 Euro price point in February. According to VGChartz.com tracking information, this price drop has allowed the Xbox 360 to gain traction, and sell 100% m... More »
