Update: Several users are reporting that they are now unable to sign in anymore with PS3 Proxy, receiving error 8002A212.

Additionally, the only changes in 2.30 per Sony are a Redesigned PLAYSTATION®Store, Blu-ray Disc playback now supports DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio output- noting the PS3 system does not support playback of DTS-ES and DTS 96/24 for DVD-Video or DTS-ES Matrix for Blu-ray Discs.

Earlier last week, one of the PS3 Devs sent his PS3 Debug/TEST unit off to another resident Dev (who also successfully did a PS3 Retail Flash dump early last year) to have the PS3 Flash dumped.

Well, it has been done! In an amazing feat taking all of 10 minutes, Courier pulled the two PS3 NAND Flash chips from the PS3 TEST and dumped them. Nothing like a hot air rework station in the hands of a professional!

So, the PS3 TEST Flash has been dumped! We also had a chance to do a preliminary analysis on it as we have seen and catalogued nearly 15 seperate PS3 Retail Flash dumps- and there is only (1) constant string in the section we are examining in all of them.

But in the PS3 TEST, it differs!!

More information will be posted soon, but the plan is now to replace said data on a Retail PS3 system, and by doing so modifying its identity to pass the update verification so t... More »

Yesterday we posted a rumor of a PS3 Hello World Homebrew Method found by dragula96. Many were skeptical as it was announced the day before April Fool's Day, however, today we are happy to confirm the only fools were those who dubbed it as "fake" :P

Courtesy of dragula96, here is the PS3 Hello World UT3 Mod Proof-Of-Concept along with related info and a new video detailing how it was done! Please NOTE (as suspected in the previous comments) this is a UT3 Mod and not true PS3 homebrew (running unsigned code), however, it is an excellent accomplishment in itself.

Update: Sony has officially confirmed that the new PlayStation Store interface will also be coming to North America in mid-April.

To quote: Customers will be able to access, browse, shop and download content as usual prior to the store’s re-opening. However, no additional downloadable content will be posted prior to then, including this Thursday, April 3rd, and next Thursday, April 10th.

Regularly scheduled content updates will resume with the Store’s re-opening, at which time additional games and game-related items will be added, including the downloadable version of the highly-anticipated exclusive PS3 title Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

Sony has released 3 sample images of the new design for the PlayStation store and said that "Content will be suspended for two weeks while the improvements are carried out but users can look forward ... More »

Dragula96 has posted a video (below) on YouTube today that demonstrates a PS3 "Hello World" Proof-Of-Concept.

Needless to say, today is the day before April 1st (April Fool's Day), however, dragula96 has been a long-standing contributer of several development boards (including PS2Dev) for several years... so we have opted give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being and dubbed this a "rumor" ;)

He also states he is attempting to get a game of Pong working, and that he will share the method and source code in time.

According to dragula96, this does not require any hardware modification and the method has been tested on a PS3 40GB and 60GB console- both of which have current 2.20 Firmware and are retail models, not development models!

To quote: In the video, you can see some tape on my TV, that is to hide MAC and IP addresses... there are no cuts in video at all.... More »

We have a few PS3 development updates for the new week, including some PS3 KeyVault Project and PS3 Flash news.

To start, resident PS3 Dev subdub has been a bit busy, so he has yet to put the finishing touches on our PS3 KeyVault Server Application. In his absence, both ggparallel and mainman have picked up the slack, and are finishing up the server application. While they are finishing up the app, they are also optimizing the code so it is more versatile as it can auto-update clients, and it will also be able to handle more requests.

Below is a picture of the client application's Web interface that runs on any PS3, including retail consoles via OtherOS. It basically lets you configure the PS3's IP address, check the status of the program, the kernel, and transmitted packets.

Another resident PS3 Dev, who recently received a PS3 TEST unit, is currently awaiting some new hot air rework t... More »

Here is the rundown:

25. Contra: Shattered Soldier (Konami)
It's time to grit your teeth, cock your weapon and show the world what you're made of. Contra: Shattered Soldier is the meatiest Contra game to date, only because it's the most difficult one ever made. That's just fine by us, though. Along with the challenge, you'll also find Shattered Soldier's gritty graphics and rock soundtrack par for the course.

24. Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil (Namco Bandai)
Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil is everything we hoped a sequel would be and so much more. The revamped cel-shaded visual style, along with the wondrous soundtrack and the classic 2-D gameplay, make it a game worth revisiting. It's a shame we won't see Klonoa 3 on the PS3 anytime soon.

23. Resident Evil 4 (Capcom)
Resident Evil 4 rocks on GameCube, but the PS2 received a solid port. Along with improved visuals and gameplay, RE4 on the PS2 also features several sub-missions featuring the s... More »
