I quickly invested days into the Internet, scouring for the greatest homebrew software that would enhance my portable system without corrupting and reducing it to its useless “brick” form. Half a year later, my PSP now acts as my GPS, a tutor in three different languages (French, Italian, German), a soon-to-be cell phone replacement (the wonders of Skype are highly underrated), and a digital photo album; not to mention a port of PC’s SCUMMVM, allowing me to relive all my Monkey Island fan service memories.
More surprising than the device’s versatility, was the fact that I seemed to be the only one in my city to have one. Sure, on a rare occasion I would spot another user on the bu... More »
At the same time, every new PC or notebook comes with at least one optical drives, so the amount of optical drives always equals the amount of systems sold plus x, where x stands for enthusiast users who want dedicated devices for reading and writing discs, or those who adopt new technology such as Blu-ray rather early.
We are talking about 90 million systems only for Europe in 2007 (SonyNEC Optiarc numbers). Clearly, talking about modifying components, the production other items within the supply chain makes a great difference for these guys, even if we’re only talking about few cents per drive.
But there is light on the horizon for the industry: With the victory of Blu-ray over the HD DVD, the standard for t... More »
Speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz, UK managing director Rob Cooper has said that the format lacks direction, with Sony unsure of how to market a machine he sees as over-priced and too technical for the mainstream consumer.
"I think that Sony is disappointed with sales and it's unsure as to which way to take it," said Cooper in an interview published today.
"Sony needs to show us a bit more about what its plans are to convince the publisher to invest lots more money into it. Especially when you've got the DS selling at such a tremendous pace.
"I suppose it's almost too technical for the casual person, those that are buying the DS at the moment, who want a few buttons and not a lot more. It's so simple what [Nintendo] has done. That's where I think Sony has gone a little bit too complicated, they've over-specced it, the pri... More »

Daily GameFunk analyzes the 360's prospects for the immediate and long-term future. With the 360 being surpassed by the Wii in North America, and the Playstation 3 in Europe, the article seeks to answer the question: Is the 360 dead? And if not, what can Microsoft do to keep the 360 viable against strong competition?
In terms of sales, the 360 has been struggling to gain its footing on very slippery slope this year. After being the leading console in the US for more than 2 years, it was finally surpassed by the Wii at the end of May.
In addition to this, Sony announced a few weeks ago that they had finally outsold the 360 in Europe, landing another critical blow to the 360. With this on top of numerous other issues, many have began contemplating whether or not Microsoft has already closed up shop on the 360 and began looking at future consoles. However, this is simply not the case.

A small group of PS3 owners were sent to a facility in [undisclosed location], California to test a new PlayStation product in development.
Once inside the testing facility, these PS3 owners were shown a mini-tripod that stood about 12 inches high. and what looked like 4 black PS3 “wiimotes”. Well they were essentially “wiimotes” for the PS3, but didn’t need a “nunchuck” attachment. I will refer to them as “PS3motes” for now on.
You can have up to 4 of these “PS3motes” connected at one time. A demonstrator at this focus group was there showing off the “PS3motes” capabilities, along with some mini-games to play. The mini games ranged from tennis, to fencing, to a “really really cool” paintball game. The demonstrator even used the “PS3mote” to play “Quake” ... More »
Fans shouldn't be surprised, however; the new Street Fighter film hopes to take the video game adaptation more seriously this time around instead of the Van Damme cheeseboulder that snuck up on the world in 1994 like one of Dhalsim's sly reacharounds. We're following Chun Li as she scours Thailand as a street fighter to find her father's killer, M. Bison (Neal McDonough).
Quick note: I don't know how, but she actually looks identical to how I imagined she would look when they announced the project—A dirty street fighter in Thailand, delving into the mucky muck. Street fighting isn't exactly a colorful world with costumes and junk.
Don't worry, though, because one of the storyboards released shows her with... More »
As promised, below you will find a video of our PS3 TEST SD Launcher. The quality is not great nor was there sound, but it's the best capture from the old camera we have so we improvised and added a tune in the background.
A video capture of the PS3 would have been much clearer, but we wanted to show the PS3 in the video as well. It starts from the XMB, and allows non-NPDRM SELF's to be executed from SD card.
In the video you can see the SD Launcher loading and booting to the select screen. There is the ability to "move" throughout the list, and upon hovering on your slot of choice, pressing X.
At the moment the titles and locations are hardcoded, we need to add in support for reading either a filelist or the PARAM.SFO's.
The real impressive part of the video is in regards to the Ridge Racer 7 Demo. We obtained the Ridge Racer 7 Demo from an Official PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc. Upon r... More »
