Here are just a few of the things to look forward to in Windows 7.
10. Ding-dong, the Sidebar is dead.
One of the first things I hunted down and killed in Windows Vista was the Sidebar, which loaded by default and docked Vista's Gadgets to the right side of your desktop. In Windows 7, the sidebar is no more, and gadgets, should you want them, can roam free across the desktop. This time around, the gadgets feel less distracting to me—the CPU meter and calendar gadgets are my favourites, though this screenshot shows many more.
9. Calculator, WordPad, and Paint got overhauled.
It sucks that Windows 7 is stripping the built-... More »
Eurogamer has also been told that you'll be able to see optional EXIF (exchangeable image file format) information while viewing photos.
And finally for the things that weren't mentioned yesterday, the Y and Z and Q and A keys have been remapped for the German on-screen keyboard. Gut.
Things we already knew about Firmware 2.5:
• Pads and the PS3 itself now have tweakable power-save settings for turning off after a period of inactivity.
• You can tell the PS3 to power down once it's finished downloading or installing content.
• In-game screenshots can be taken in compatible games.
• It enables high-quality mode for the official PS3 Bluetooth headset.
• The Trophy interface has been improved, so you... More »

Just so you know, the PS3 has 512MB of RAM (256 for video and 256 for system). The Cell chip has 256MB of completely sharable RAM, the GPU has 256MB of dedicated RAM. Now the key here is what type of RAM it is.
The PlayStation 3 has 256mb of GDDR3 at 700mhz and 256Mb of XDR at 3.2ghz. So what exactly is XDR ram? Here are some of the highlights:
- XDR makes PS3 super effiecient
- XDR aids in faster cache mapping, both direct and indirect
- XDR ram works by a pointer to pointer technology and needs very small buswidth for execution
- XDR is not just faster than GDDR3 but it is much more efficient
- XDR RAM works by breaking down data into several packets which prevents data loss and exceptions
The Rambus... More »
Manucc1, a member of Spanish community Elotrolado (linked above), believes there may be a possible PS3 exploit in the PS3 Controller... although SIXAXIS or DS3 is not specified, and it could work in a similar manner to the Pandora Batteries in the PSP.
This claim is based primarily on speculation that in the PS3 controller there is a chip that is the same as on PSP, and it is alleged to control Firmware in some fashion.
Info on the chip is available HERE, and a list of IC chips in PS3 is available HERE.
This EEPROM chip may allow Firmware to be installed (when you install Firmware on PS3, you always have to use the controller... before 2.1, you had to plug the controller in via USB).
For those who don't speak Spanish, they are currently looking int... More »

Okay... deep breath. The PS3 is kinda broken.
Now we don’t mean that the PS3 will ‘red ring’ at any given opportunity, and we’re not suggesting it’s a console destined for the scrapheap – quite the opposite. When we say the PS3 is broken, we say it with the best of intentions, with a barely contained frustration towards a machine that, in its current state, will never fulfil its full potential.
We’re talking of course about processing bottlenecks, and the PS3 has a tonne of them.
The first major bottleneck is a result of the Blu ray drive. Although Blu-ray has traditionally been seen as the major selling point of the PS3 (and to a certain extent it is) at this ear... More »
Xabora posted up some rumors regarding potential upcoming Xbox stuff at NeoGAF linked above. The Xbox 360 will be slimming down to a Wii-like size, this model should have a GPU and CPU combo dye with E-DRAM off to the side.
Next up is the model after the 360 that is expected to have a Blu-ay drive, quad core CPU, 1TB hard drive and a sepculative release date of 2010.
To quote: Today I ran across some information. However I do live in an area with a good deal of employees/contractors from a rather large corporation and have worked with some of them in my past. So lets start off with some of the info I was given starting with the 360 in general.
From what I was told during a conversation; Microsoft seems to be slimming the system down to a 'Wii-like' size. (A Fat overweight Wii) This model should have the CPU+GPU Combo Dye with the E-DRAM off to the side. Thats all the information I have on that.
Now I'm not 100% sure on this s... More »
