The 3rd and most ambitious FREE software update for Burnout Paradise will arrive later than expected for Xbox 360 players.

We've picked up some additional bugs in our final test phase for the 360 version of Cagney and will delay until these issues are resolved.

We're unable to give an exact timeline for release, but as soon as we have confirmation, we'll post here on the criteriongames.com. For the moment, we're expecting this to have an impact of around a week-and-a-half. Right now, we're looking at 24th July as a projected date.

Big thanks to Microsoft for picking up these last few bugs. Nothing's more important to us than Burnout fans getting a great service, which is why we won't pull the trigger on Cagney until we're happy that it's bug-free.

The Cagney update is our first major content-based release. It contains 3 all-new game modes and 70 new challenges featuring multiple parts, timer and leaderboard. We're also bringing n... More »

With the hot news I saw I had to do something! Swap Magic on PS3 running? I thought it was patched, and indeed so, but only on US/Jap consoles.. I tried several swap magic (SM from now), but none worked... and this is becaused it IS patched, on fw 2.10 and up.

So I thought... if they patched a specific title, they seem they haven't patched others... so I found that I can create a bootable PS2 disc and I made one. I added many useful PS2 ELFs (not all useful for now..) but we have what we need. Ok, first the proof and then tutorial:

This method using an original SM disk has been already posted.. but never actully confirmed how or when SM works.. The method with an ORIGINAL SM DISC works only on EUROPEAN PS3s any FW, except 40gb p... More »

A poster on Capcom Unity's Forums has received an answer to the question of whether Devil May Cry 4 and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be getting the trophy treatment and it is no. Capcom feels that DMC4 already has "its own little trophylike system" and the Puzzle Fighter team has moved on to other projects.

There is a tiny bit of good news though, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix may have trophies implemented, but it will depend on "what schedules look like and what Sony's requirements are."

The only real good news is future games from Capcom will all have trophies, as it has "been worked into CEI's developer contracts as a required deliverable." Have other publishers signed such a contract?

This is rather disappointing, but after a string of such reports, we are not surprised. We are just really hoping SSF2T HD Remix will have... More »

We are taking a look at four Hideo Kojima games that we would like to see resurrected. Now that Solid Snake’s tale has come to an end, Hideo Kojima has plenty of time to dabble in the worlds outside of the Metal Gear universe.

After all, the man is no one trick pony; he has many other series’ that fans of his would love to either see remakes of or better yet, new iterations. So without further ado, we present to you readers, the 4 games we would like to Mr. Kojima work on in the future.

Snatcher
Snatcher was a game that was doomed from the start here in North America. Not only did it debut at the end of the Sega CD’s life, but hardly anyone bought the add-on resulting in poor sales. Yet, over the years, this cyber-punk adventure would gain a small cult following of hardcore Hideo Kojima fans. Snatcher was basically the video game adaptation of Blade Runner, centered on a “Runner” named Gillian Seed, an amnesiac new recruit... More »

First off, we would like to wish all of our American visitors a very Happy 4th of July 2008 today!

But for more explosive news (who doesn't love a pun?) we recently received two special PS3 PUP files from a VERY nice guy. As pictured below, they are PS3 Debug 1.00 (65.5 MB (68,765,224 bytes)) and PS3 Debug 1.50 (72.2 MB (75,762,080 bytes)).

These PUPs, which are the special downgrade PUPs, allow a user to downgrade their PS3 TEST from any version down to it. For example, with the 1.00 SPECIAL Downgrade PUP a user can be on 2.40, install it, and after a reboot be on 1.00!

1.00, which lacks just about every feature but ON/OFF functionality, will then let us upgrade to any DEV firmware above it.

Which brings us to 1.50... Through examining numerous Sony documentation recently, we have read that in the 1.60 Firmware the PS3's kernel memory and user memory are separated, leading us to believe that the kernel m... More »

Although it was first mentioned HERE, the above translated page from watch.impress.co.jp shows some additional very cool pictures of the new Life with PlayStation features.

To me, it looks like Wii channels in Hi-Def are coming soon. Interestingly it doesn't say PS3 so I'm wondering if they are going to release this for the PSP too?

There are more statements about PS2 gaming and Home. Click the link above to see some more detailed info on Life with PlayStation.

Per Grace Chen (Senior Manager, PLAYSTATION Store) today:

Hey, everyone. It’s time again for the PLAYSTATION Store weekly update.

Add-on Game Content:
PAIN Nigel Character ($0.99)
Meet the newest downloadable character Nigel, a British punk so full of rage that the only thing he doesn’t hate is PAIN, and he hates the fact that he doesn’t hate it. He’s brassed off and ready to bang his head into whatever and whoever gets in his way (watch out for those spikes!). Well, it sounds like he’s asking for for it, so give him a launch…and make it a PAINful one.
