According to an "inside UK source" via Kotaku, Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe has cancelled Heavenly Sword 2.

The game had been in development for a few months, but Sony has apparently decided that it is no longer commercially viable.

To quote: On a side note, Ninja Theory, who have already said they weren't working on the sequel to their PlayStation 3 exclusive, have grown increasingly bitter about their treatment at Sony's hands, our source tells us.

I'm told that the development studio, which once had offices in the same building as Sony Cambridge ha started packing up to move to a new location.

Needless to say, this is deemed simply a rumor for the time being...

The initial shock and awe of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has come and gone, and it's now time to reflect on Hideo Kojima's recently released opus. Though MGS4 is no doubt a stunning game and many would argue evidence for videogames being treated as art, it's by no means perfect.

Having just completed the game and spent some time in Metal Gear Online, I'm here to share my gripes about the game. Being a long-time fan of the MGS series, it's frustrating to see MGS4 turn out the way that it did, but I suppose it is what it is.

Be warned, I don't have any criticisms of the story, but I do discuss the gameplay in each Act of the game, so if you don't want anything spoiled, best to just move on.

1. No reason to be on the Playstation 3

Why is this game on the PS3 again, besides Sony likely throwing a ton of money at Konami to keep it exclusive? It doesn't utilize the Playstation 3's strengths at all. The previously sho... More »

It was inevitable... Reports are coming in that the latest Wii firmware update from Nintendo deletes and prevents edited save game files from being loaded via SD Card.

Essentially, this means that the homebrew enabling Twilight Hack, which comes in the form of a modified save file for non-modified Wii consoles, will no longer function if system menu 3.3 is installed.

According to folks who have already updated, the custom made Homebrew Channel is still accessible if you have it installed prior to upgrading to the new firmware, which is somewhat of a relief.

Avid user of Wii homebrew? Save yourself and stay clear of this update, for the time being at least.

Victories are inevitable in the technology war between platform holder and hacker/pirate. No matter how clever the former are the latter will always catch up.

This has always been so. Once a system is cracked the floodgates open as the word spreads on the interweb.

Now the Nintendo Wii is cracked, supposedly so it can become an open platform for homebrew. But what it means is that the pirates will exploit the same loophole so they can steal people’s work instead of paying for it. So the Wii will become even less worthwhile for third party publishers.

“The Twilight Hack is currently the only safe, public way to run homebrew on an unmodded Wii. The Twilight Hack is achieved by playing a hacked game save for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess which executes a homebrew elf file, boot.elf, on an external SD card. Examples of such homebrew elf files can be found on the Homebrew apps page.”

This is a sad event for every game profe... More »

Hot on the heels of last week’s report from ABI Research noting that many consumers may not see the picture quality difference between Blu-ray and standard DVDs comes the latest Blu-ray sales figures from NPD Group. And they’re not pretty.

According to NPD, sales of Blu-ray standalone players plummeted 40 percent from January to February, then rose a scant 2 percent from February to March. The general consensus was that once Toshiba dropped its support for the HD DVD format early this year, sales would increase.

In fact, sales of Blu-ray standalone players remain so low that NPD has not yet released actual numbers, for fear that it would be easy to identify individual retailers. The research group will start to give actual figures later this year, said Ross Rubin, director of industry analysis at NPD.
The end of the format wars clearly did little to boost Blu-ray’s prospects. Like others, Mr. Rubin said the much cheaper upconverting standard DVD pl... More »

Hello.. today we release a PlayStation 3 Security Architecture PDF document to the public. We still are doing some work on PS3 KeyVault Project, so still not ready yet.

For the PDF.. this is not for newbies sorry. Target Audience: Deep knowledge of CBEA SOC, Sony PlayStation 3 hardware logic, security, encryption/decryption and secure boot dynamics is the minimum to understand the parts of this document.

Thanks to all the stuff of http://www.PS3News.com, without their support this documentation would not be possible, thanks also to Sony for all the nice patents. :)
