Fun Box is Open!      Poll What Do You Want for Christmas?      Buy, Sell, & Trade Forum Open!

Astarot / Voted

According to forum posters at PSPChina, the long-rumored PSP-3000 in is production and will include a built-in mic, along with minor cosmetic changes.

To substantiate their claims, one of the forum goers supplied a photo of the unit, which depicts a new button with the PS brand logo next to the two volume push buttons, in replace of the HOME button found on the PSP-1000 and 2000 series. To the right of the volume buttons is the microphone.

Keep in mind these photos are not confirmed to be the real deal and that they should be considered rumor for now. We'll be following up with Sony to learn more about its PSP plans and get comment on the authenticity of the photos.

0komp0 has posted a video on YouTube showing his European PS3 connected to gain access to Sony's US Video Store. He hasn't tried purchasing any content yet, and the video below is just to show that it is possible for Europeans to access the Video Store.

To quote: After watching E3 live via a friends stream I heard about the New Video Store for PS3 Owners. It sounded amazing and I planned to purchase content. However the days past and the news comes that its not available to us EU-based PS3 owners!

Here is a proof of concept video to show it can be accessed from other countries. Thanks for screwing us EU users AGAIN SONY!!!

To quote from xorloser's Web site linked above:

This is a PS3 loader for IDA, it lets you open PS3 elf/self/prx/sprx files in IDA. I highly recommend you use this with the PPC-Altivec plug-in also available on this site.

Download: PS3 ELF/SELF/PRX/SPRX PPU Loader v1.1 for IDA v5.2

THIS DOES NOT DECRYPT ANY FILES !!!! That means that for now this loader will ONLY work on unencrypted files. There are a few such files "in the wild" that have been found on Sony update servers and such.

As well as loading the supported PS3 filetypes in both 32bit and 64bit vesions of IDA this also resolves and sets up all imports, exports and syscalls. It also only supports PS3 PPU files as the PS3 SPU CPU is not supported by IDA at this time... More »

There has been a lot of talk about the PlayStation 3's Random Access Memory (RAM) vs Xbox 360's RAM, saying that the 360 has more RAM to work with etc. Here is an article to explain the situation of its RAM.

Just so you know, the PS3 has 512MB of RAM (256 for video and 256 for system). The Cell chip has 256MB of completely sharable RAM, the GPU has 256MB of dedicated RAM. Now the key here is what type of RAM it is.

The PlayStation 3 has 256mb of GDDR3 at 700mhz and 256Mb of XDR at 3.2ghz. So what exactly is XDR ram? Here are some of the highlights:

- XDR makes PS3 super effiecient
- XDR aids in faster cache mapping, both direct and indirect
- XDR ram works by a pointer to pointer technology and needs very small buswidth for execution
- XDR is not just faster than GDDR3 but it is much more efficient
- XDR RAM works by breaking down data into several packets which prevents data loss and exceptions

The Rambus... More »

Courtesy of ST0RM53, linked above: Hey.. long time to write :p

With the hot news I saw I had to do something! Swap Magic on PS3 running? I thought it was patched, and indeed so, but only on US/Jap consoles.. I tried several swap magic (SM from now), but none worked... and this is becaused it IS patched, on fw 2.10 and up.

So I thought... if they patched a specific title, they seem they haven't patched others... so I found that I can create a bootable PS2 disc and I made one. I added many useful PS2 ELFs (not all useful for now..) but we have what we need. Ok, first the proof and then tutorial:

This method using an original SM disk has been already posted.. but never actully confirmed how or when SM works.. The method with an ORIGINAL SM DISC works only on EUROPEAN PS3s any FW, except 40gb p... More »

Bill Gates may have only just said his goodbyes, but the Microsoft machine keeps on running with the company announcing information about the release of Windows 7.

The paint may not have even dried on the Windows that is Vista, but it seems that Microsoft is already looking to launch its successor within the next two years.

In a letter to enterprise and business customers on Tuesday, vice president of Microsoft Bill Veghte announced that the approximate launch date for Windows 7 is January, 2010.

Seventh heaven

In the letter, Veghte wrote: "Our plan is to deliver Windows 7 approximately three years after the January 2007 general availability launch date of Windows Vista.

"You've also let us know you don't want to face the kinds of incompatibility challenges with the next version of Windows you might have experienced early with Windows Vista.

"Our goal is to ensure that the migration process from Windo... More »
