We recently purchased a new 80GB PlayStation 3 console, and our very own PS3 Dev Courier dissected his new system.

The item that peaked his interest the most was that it had one single 56-pin Flash chip, the S29GL128N90TFIR2, and was 128MB in size in contrast to older PS3 consoles utilizing dual (2x256MB) 48-pin chips totaling 512MB. So, he bought a new adapter, and some blank chips and proceeded to pull the 56-pin flash, and dumped it.

To our surprise, he was unable to dump more than 16MB of it! At first, we believed that the other blocks in the flash were protected via password, however there was something else brewing.

He took the 16MB dump that was made and flashed it onto a completly blank chip, and reinstalled it in the PS3.

To our surprise, it worked!

Now, if you recall, newer version PS3 Firmwares have ask... More »

Media Molecule have said that the BETA version of LittleBigPlanet currently underway is based on "quite an old build". They say that they have some cool new stuff that’s been in their private test for a few days which will improve the game such as less lagginess and better online stability.

Media Molecule also seemed to apologize for Sony's decision to give 5,800 beta keys to only Eurogamer saying that the distribution of the keys is entirely in the hands of Sony. Media Molecule say that there are more keys coming SOON.

To quote: What AMAZES me is how good the first ’sketches’ of levels are. it took our testers at least a few weeks of heavy create before incredible levels started appearing. and now something cool for you all to think about: you’ve only seen the first 3 levels :)

Remember, this is a *beta* to test our servers, NOT a demo.... More »

Sam Protagonist, a Sony Dev from the LittleBigPlanet forums, has opened a thread (linked above) to deal with any new information about LittleBigPlanet BETA keys with any Web site key giveaways to be posted. Here is what was posted by Sam:

Hi all, I'll be updating this thread regularly today with information about the beta and where keys can be applied for in this thread only. I won't be responding to any others, simply because there are so many of them.

JStevenson, one of the developers of Resistance 2 just confirmed at NeoGAF forums (linked above) that there would be new 'ingame' images of Resistance 2, which would be posted tomorrow.

Here is what he said:

"Hi everybody,

I'm exhausted, but we showed co-op, SP and MP... some folks played co-op for close to two hours, others played SP for that time, and others played MP. We went for over four hours and still had to kick people off.

Feedback was universally and exceptionally positive.

I'll be on a plane tomorrow when everything breaks. Rest assured i'll be around to answer questions when I get in.

And yes, all the screenshots you'll see tomorrow are real... "

Although Googling takes this back to at least 2007 and the Chinese author's Web site linked in the application appears dead, I don't see this in our PS3 Downloads section yet so here goes, from the source link above:

A Chinese programmer has put together a PS3 controller driver that works with standard USB HID. That driver is called SixAxisDriver, and you can grab it right here. Simply run the install, load the driver, reboot Vista, and your controller will be identified and will start working!

We do, however, already have a several similar utilities in our archive including a Sixaxis PS3 Linux Driver For PC and a Sixaxis PS3 Win32 Driv... More »
