Like with Ghost Squad, its other Arcade-to-Wii light gun port, Sega has an optional Zapper pack-in planned for the Japanese release of The House of the Dead 2 and 3 Return this March. Amazon Japan already has preorders for the set available for 5,023 yen, about $44 dollars. For comparison, the software alone is priced at 4,536 yen, or $40.

You know, Sega, we wouldn't mind if you brought these bundles to the US at those prices (and with a Nyko Perfect Shot, instead). We understand that Japan didn't get the Link's Crossbow Training set, but this will be the third Zapper pack-in that North America misses out on -- the previous two being for Ghost Squad and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. Come on, Sega, just think of it as a good-will gesture to all the Americans who actually gave you money for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.

The holidays are a time of giving and love, and it's high time we give the Wii a little bit of tough love. I've thrown criticisms at the console and the big N more than a couple of times, and so far, it looks like most of my gripes are being addressed. This time I'm picking nits for the most stubborn issues many of us are hoping to see rectified, but seem to be on the bottom of the power players' to-do lists.

With games up to the quality standard of Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, and Resident Evil 4, it's easy to forget there's anything wrong with the Wii. But I'm taking some time off from the nearly perfect games to scrutinize and deliver up a list of complaints. Of course, I'm only doing this because we love the Wii so much and want to see the most made of its enormous potential.

10. The waiting game
Some things never change. Nintendo is well known for family friendliness, extremely polished games, and designing hardware that prints money, but th... More »

Despite being the staples of modern arcades, there are hardly any lightgun games on Nintendo formats. Ever since they went all out and created a bazooka instead of an ordinary gun peripheral for the SNES, everyone has steered well clear.

But now that we have a Nintendo format that seems purpose-built for shooters, perhaps we'll see a few more of these arcade conversions popping up. And if they've had as much care and attention lavished on them as Sega's Ghost Squad so clearly has, then bring them on.

Making it your mission
Ghost Squad is a conversion of an arcade game that takes less than eight minutes to complete. You whack a quid in it, point the gun at the massive screen and blast away at terrorists until you either die because you got shot too much, or you make it all the way to the end with a high score.

If you complete a mission, there are two others of similar length. Each had multiple branching routes, so you wouldn't get exactly th... More »

Yet another version of the Wii Zapper gun attachment has hit the market, this time in the form of the Wii Cyber Gun, sounds all Dr Who and Sci-Fied doesn’t it, it isn’t. What you have here is essentially a bit of plastic that converts your WiiMote and Nunchuk controllers into a light gun. We guess this is kind of cool, given it’s more like a machine gun than the others released thus far.

The Wii Cyber Gun will set you back a cool $16USD, making it slightly cheaper than the official Wii Zapper, but it doesn’t come with Link’s Crossbow Training, which the Wii Zapper does. Personally I prefer the 2 in 1 Wii gun because the pistol section looks so cool, but out of the lot I’d go for the official Zapper as Link’s Crossbow Training is too good to pass up.

Playing cowboys and native American indigenous peoples (Injuns - to the unreconstructed) with plastic pretend guns was about the best fun you could have as a six-year old growing up in the wilds of South Yorkshire, SPOnG fondly remembers (perhaps with slightly rose-tinted specs).

Alas, with the modern fear and moral panic over everything and anything to do with guns, it seems that children will not be allowed to play with Nintendo’s new Wii Zapper, which is to be slapped with a PEGI 18-rating when it comes out next month.

Perhaps the ban makes a little more sense when you realise that one of the main Wii games to make full use of the gun is the genuinely shit-scary, on-rails survival shooter Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles which Capcom has announced will be hitting shelves on November 30.

Umbrella Chronicles played using the Wii Zapper lets you play as Chris, Jill, Rebecca, Billy and Carlos in single player or two-player co-op modes. It w... More »

Official confirmation from Nintendo that the Wii Zapper interface will indeed come with Link's Crossbow Training packed in and that the remote-housing Wii Zapper will sell for $20 starting Nov. 19.

Link's Crossbow Training drops players into a world in the style of The Legend of Zelda®: Twilight Princess. Players assume the identity of hero Link, who progresses through a series of tests to perfect his crossbow marksmanship. Start with stationary bull's-eyes and graduate to moving targets before defending Link against all kinds of enemies.
Nintendo also confirms a pretty interesting line-up of third-party Wii Zapper support including Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Ghost Squad and Medal of Honor Heroes 2 which will include single player, arcade mode and support for up to 32 players in multiplayer.
