Criterion was on hand at EA's press event today to show off the latest and greatest version of the upcoming Burnout Paradise for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game made a splashy showing at this year's E3 and our positive impressions of the speedy, gorgeous racer haven't really changed. At today's event we had a chance to check out the online and offline challenges you'll engage in which, not surprisingly involved much fun and crashing.

The big hook to the game are the options open to players as they go online. When hopping online you'll be able to jump into a challenge match that scales according to how many people are in a game, ranging from two to eight. The challenges are fast, fun cooperative experiences that have you performing stunts, catching a set amount of air or other quick and easy tasks. Though the game isn't done, Criterion reps on hand said the plan is to have well over 100 challenges for players to try, to ensure a hefty and varied amount of challeng... More »

That's right, you don't have to download the Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles expansion to play it on your Xbox 360, Bethesda today confirmed that the pack will be going to retail in October and will also include the Knights of the Nine content.

The retail disc will sell for $30, no word yet on whether they will be doing the same for the Playstation 3, though I'm told they are looking into options.

Bethesda also let us know that Prima is releasing a new nearly 500-page Game of the Year edition of their Oblivion Game Guide which will cover all of the content released to date.

Hit the jump for the release.

If you've played a fair bit of the earlier WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW games, you'd know that nothing's more satisfying than clocking your opponent over the head with a chair, pounding his face in with a sledgehammer or chucking his lifeless ass through a table. Sure, you could fight a (*yawn*) fair fight, but using items from a hardware store to get the win appeals to your inner extremist.

Recognizing how awesome hardcore wrestling is, WWE SmackDown 08 features the brand-new ECW Extreme Rules Match - the new screens of which can be found here. For the first time ever, you can compete in the violent, no holds barred environment that put ECW on the map (and under the WWE's acquisition). Under Extreme Rules, absolutely anything goes, as you can now choose which weapons to take into battle right from the Vs. Screen, something the previous games lacked in the older Weapons m... Choi Wang revealed that a Norwegian game shop called Expert today sold at least two copies of Halo 3 to the public, he added the following picture as proof. In the past, premature street date breaks have resulted in competitors following suit, if this occurs, we could all be purchasing Halo 3 a lot earlier than we thought.

DFC predicts the game industry as a whole could generate $47 billion that year.
According to a series of recent reports by the research group DFC Intelligence, the game industry is poised to see enormous overall growth in 2009, just in time for the Xbox 360 to slip to a distant third place in the console race.

DFC estimates that the videogame market will swell to $47 billion by 2009, a 42 percent increase over the $33 billion generated by the industry in 2006. That forecast includes revenue from videogame hardware and software, dedicated portable system hardware and software (i.e. the DS and PSP - not mobile phones), PC games, and online PC and console games.

But the Xbox 360's selling power could be on the wane, according to DFC's research. The company has raised its forecast for the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 and lowered its forecast for Microsoft's console, predicting that the Wii will stay on top at least through 2008 and that the PS3 will move i... In related news, according to GamesRadar.com UK high street retailer Argos blames a 'Genuine administrative error' for the broken Halo 3 street date stating:

"Argos would like to make it clear that it does not endorse breaking street dates and continues to be committed to preventing pre-release sales through its stores and web site.

However, we are aware that a genuine administrative error has resulted in a small number of cases where Halo 3 has already been sold. We are currently ensuring that there are no further sales of this product in-store until the official release date, Wednesday 26 September. We have ... More »

Microsoft will launch an updated HD DVD drive for the Xbox 360 in 2008, it said at its 25th hardware anniversary in London today.

Mark Bennett, Microsoft's European business development director for HD DVD, demonstrated the technology's advanced interactive features and pointed out that Paramount, Universal Studios and many Warner Brothers high definition titles are exclusive to HD DVD.

"The interactive features actually work on HD DVD whereas Blu-ray titles are six to nine months away from getting features that actually work," Bennett said, referring to Blu-ray's current inability to do picture in picture videos. Bennett also said "there are more plans to incorporate HD DVD into the PC platform in the future."

The original Xbox360 HD DVD drive, which launched in November 2006, was fully compatible with Windows PCs and proved a hit for being the cheapest high definition drive on sale. The event, which was celebrating Microsoft's 25th anniversary o... More »
