E3 2013: XBox One to Launch in November at $499, New Halo in 2014

62w ago - Following up on their initial unveil and pricing speculation reports, today Microsoft officially confirmed that XBox One will launch this November at $499 alongside a new Halo coming next year!

Below are the details from Microsoft's Live E3 2013 Conference complete with a Halo 5 XBox One E3 trailer, to quote:

"Microsoft today told the world’s gamers when they’ll be able to get hold of the latest and greatest Xbox, and how much they’ll have to pay for the privilege: this November, and $499, respectively.

Though the Xbox One’s holiday-season launch timing is standard for new consoles, the price surprised many onlookers. Pundits including Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter had predicted a $399 debut, in line with the Xbox 360’s premium edition at its 2005 launch.

Microsoft also took the opportunity to dive further into the console’s innovative online features. The Xbox One’s DVR features go beyond just recording TV; it’ll automatically record key gameplay moments, and let you add commentary and titles before...

Microsoft: There is No Need to Launch a New XBox 360 Console

240w ago - Xbox Product Management Senior Director David Hufford believes that Natal will give new life to the Xbox 360, and that there is no need to launch a new console.

To quote from a recent interview with [Register or Login to view links]: "I think it's important to say that the Xbox 360 is the console of the long future for us.

There is no need to launch a new console, because we're able to give this console new life either with software upgrades or hardware upgrades like Project Natal," said David Hufford, senior director of Xbox product management in a briefing at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. "The Xbox 360 was designed for a long life, and I don't even know if we're at the midpoint yet."

This would mean that the Xbox 360 can survive a 10 year life span? Feel free to comment below!

Project Natal XBox 360 Launch Details Leaked from Microsoft Tour

50°
249w ago - Today MCVUK.com (linked above) is reporting that XBox 360 Project Natal launch details have leaked from a Microsoft Tour of UK publishers and studios.

According to the leaked information, the controller-free XBox 360 camera will be released worldwide in November, 2010 with five million units to ship for launch day.

To quote: Microsoft is planning to manufacture 5m units for day one release, with a mix of console and camera plus solus SKUs expected.

The device should cost under £50 when sold solo. One publishing source says Microsoft is "trying to get as close as possible to 'impulse buy'". Another even says the camera could even retail for just £30.

14 games are being readied for launch. This summer Xbox studios boss Phil Spencer told MCV the 360 still 'hasn't peaked'.

"When Natal arrives it will feel like a new generation has come," he said. "I see it like the launch of 360 in November '05. Consumers don't want another $400 box right now."

Launch Day XBox 360s No Longer Under Three-Year Warranty

200°
289w ago - An anonymous e-mail hit the tips line earlier today and after placing a call with Microsoft's technical support, we can confirm that starting February 2, all launch day Xbox 360s will no longer be covered by Microsoft's three-year extended warranty.

The warranty should have technically ended at the end of September last year, as I was told by the technical support agent.

If you're unfortunate enough to own a launch version of the Xbox 360 and need to send it in for repairs after February 2, you'll have two options available to you. You can either call Xbox's support line and get the unit fixed for $119, or you can just go to Xbox's [Register or Login to view links] and get the unit fixed for $99, saving yourself $20.

It looks like Microsoft is attempting to cut the amount of calls they get by giving customers a "discount" by having them go through the online page.

You pretty much have until the end of today to claim your launch Xbox 360 broken due to the Red Rings of Death to avoid paying the fee.

Rumor: New XBox Experience to Launch on September 25 & More!

50°
310w ago - If this is remotely true, the Internet's going to break. This post on VGChartz reckons New Xbox Experience will launch on September 25 alongside what sounds like a comedic amount of game announcements.

To quote: "Microsoft will release a dozen new demos after the launch. There will be four new downloadable pieces of content a preview of the GTA DLC. A Mass Effect expansion. Portal and a free map pack for Halo 3.

Microsoft will unveil twelve new games never seen before that will be exclusive or first on the 360. Strangely enough the author only gives out code names for said games. Though they speculate that among them is Assassins Creed 2, Mass Effect 2, a new Conker title, a Rare shooter new franchise, and two new Halo titles."

Seriously, this is highly likely to be complete bollocks. Read it, though. If it's a lie, it's a great one. The codewords for the games are priceless.
