If any of you have ever been on any PlayStation-related blog at any point in time since the PS3’s release (and let’s be frank, that’ll be a fair few of you) you’ll have noticed that the demands for an in-game Xross Media Bar have been ever-ongoing.
Every single post on the the PlayStation.blog (still not understanding the need for that dot) has received streams of comments from the rabid PS3 owners complaining about a lack of service and a lack of respect for the consumer base who’ve splashed out several hundred dollars/pounds/Euros/et cetera on their shiny black behemoth.
The thing is, I’m wondering why, as a collective, they don’t seem to have a single brain cell between them to share some sort of common sense when it comes to developing features such as the in-game-XMB, which we’ve just received after months and months of demand. Even after we’ve picked that up, we’re still baying for more. My ultimate slating of PlayStation fanboys con... More »
Studio Archcraft came into the public eye when it originally revealed its plans for an elaborate role-playing experience for the Game Boy Advance called "Project Exile". Now the game has strong backing, has been moved to the Nintendo DS and has been developed considerably since its original conception, as well as receiving a new name, Cubed³ decided to catch up with the team to see exactly what was going on and what future plans were on the cards…
Cubed³’s Adam Riley: First of all, can you tell our readers how big the team is on this project, and how long the game has been in development?
Vincent Dehaut, Studio Archcraft: We’ve been working on Project: Exile for a pretty long time – we started the basic groundwork in 2001 or so, and began serious production work in 2002. We were still in school at that time, and the team was (and still is) fairly small considering the scope of the project. Overall, around twelve persons contributed to the project, ... More »

FXLab Studios has tied up with Yash Raj Films to develop an offline game based on Dhoom 2.
After movies on mobile phones, comes India’s first movie-based video game for PCs. Indian game developers are looking to tap the popularity of Bollywood movies by building games around films and actors.
With 54 per cent of the Indian population below the age of 25, the country’s only getting younger. And entertainment wizards are fast cashing in on the aspect.
FXLab Studios, a leading developer of high-quality game products for PCs and video game consoles, has tied up with Yash Raj Films to develop a video game titled D:2.5, based on the hit Bollywood thriller Dhoom 2.
This is the first time an Indian movie is being made into a full-length PC game. The game is set in a 3D world, featuring characters which resemble those in the movie.
Sashi Reddi, founder and chairman, FXLab Studios, says, “D:2.5 will boast ... More »
Is skulduggery undermining the UK's position as one of the world's top producers of video games?
At the so called Oscars of the computer games world, the brains behind the games were celebrating their part in a global industry now worth over £15bn a year.
But is there a plan to keep our £2.5bn a year industry here in Britain?
In the world league, the UK has dropped to number four, behind Canada which seems to be a magnet for computer wizards. That's because they offer tax breaks for games production, the UK does not.
Canada has national funding for games development paying up to 40 per cent of wages unlike Britain. They have high value tax credits to encourage investment, Britain's are ranked as low.
Looking at the scorecard - in terms of incentives it could be game over for Britain.
Margaret Hodge, Minister for Culture, Media & Sport, told Channel 4 News that she was concerned that the Canadian subsidies could ... More »

That’s the question gamers and the people who love them are bound to ask this fall as they take in the latest crop of big-budget video games. Since the 1970s, dragons, orcs, wizards and dwarfs have been staples of interactive entertainment, yet this holiday season there are hardly any top new games in the traditional fantasy mode.
Instead 2007 has been dominated by perhaps the deepest lineup of science fiction games ever.
