Homicide from Neocrisis (linked above) writes: I’m pretty sure most of you know Square-Enix (formerly Squaresoft and Enix, two different companies).

They are one of the most successful and well known companies today mostly for their JRPGs like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. On a Sunday morning, I somehow stumbled onto the Square-Enix’s Wikipedia page.

I saw their earlier titles such as Secret of Mana, Chrono and Super Mario RPG. They all brought a smile to my face as I can remember the days when I was a kid and enjoyed them.

Then their latest games were shown and the smile went away. Square went from being one of the best JRPG makers out there to just another RPG maker.

Is Square still the JRPG king we all know or have they lost it?

As many of you may have already heard (or heard and then fist clenched your pre-order receipt in utter fury) the release of LittleBigPlanet on PS3 has been delayed worldwide due to it containing references to the Qur’an, the central religious text of Islam.

The official word about the incident from Sony is as follows: “During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused.”

Head scratching, knee-jerk reaction? We certainly thought so, and it seems that we’re not alone. We recently received a phone call from Mr Keysar Trad from the Islamic Friendship Association of Australia, and he was simila... More »

I've been a fan of the demo scene since the early '90s, so this caught my eye. Without further ado, from Rusty Buchert, Sr. Producer, Everyday Shooter:

Hi all, my name is Rusty Buchert and I am the Sr. Producer for Linger in Shadows. Some of you may have heard about it already from coverage here and there, but there are a lot of questions surrounding this unique title.

It will be releasing on the PlayStation Network on October 9, so I wanted to explain today about what Linger is and what it isn’t. I’ll start with the easier side, and that is Linger in Shadows is NOT a game. It was never meant to be a game and it will never be a game. Yes it has trophies, but it still isn’t a game and I’ll explain why a little later on.

So then, what the heck is it? There are a few different answers to that question and I’m going to try and cover the... More »

It's now confirmed that Sony’s PlayTV, the cool digital TV receiver and recorder (using the PS3’s hard drive) is due out next month in UK, France, Italy, Spain and Germany, and will be priced at the bargain price of £69.99.

The hardware has two tuners, so you can watch one station and record another, and you can even watch movies and play games whilst recording TV, so the missus has no room for complaint.

With remote streaming of content to your PSP and freely movable recordings, this is something to look out for when it lands in September.

Finally, Eurogamer has confirmed the date: the 19th of September.

Takeru Kobayashi is no giant. According to Wikipedia, he's just another day at the office for the average measuring tape, coming in at only 5 ft. 8 in. tall. Neither does the scale fear his presence, as he weighs a fairly muscular 191 lbs.

If you saw this man out for a stroll among the hustle and bustle of the streets, would you believe he could wolf down 63 hot dogs in 12 minutes? Would you believe he won Nathan's (no relation) Hot Dog Eating Contest six years in a row? Of course not. You'd never expect him to be the Jaws of hotdog lore.

Well guess what: the PSP is exactly like Takeru Kobayashi. It's no sales behemoth. Only marquee titles from its library make it onto the NPD's vaunted top-ten software sales list. You'd never guess that it's doing great, but in spite of your doubts, it is.

See, even though we wrote about the PSP's sudden drought of top-selling titles, it hasn't ra... More »
