158w ago - Today Jack Chen aka anita999 has shared a PlayStation 3 IDA IDC hypervisor dump script on xorloser's blog (linked above) alongside a PS3 Debug / Test Firmware version 3.41 leak from Blackpen0 there as well!
For those curious, the IDA script is used to extract the protection page list of process obj in PS3 Hypervisor dumps.
To quote: For those who are new to HV reversing like I am. Here I made a quick IDC script for those interested in tracing the process protection pages to realize the VA and RA address mapping being used by the process.
You must execute the HV_DUMP.IDC from xorloser first, then apply this IDC later because it requires a opd_table to be defined first. and it’s for 3.15 HV only because that’s the only HV dump I have. process 0 is not extractable. There seems some data missing in the process object of process 0.
221w ago - During a recent interview with Capcom's Jun Takeuchi, 1UP (linked above) was told that several Japanese developers welcome Sony's upcoming PS3 Motion Controller as it opens the door for Wii-to-PS3 ports.
To quote from the interview: "1UP: What about Sony's motion control device?
JT: Well just being from Capcom, I can tell you that we have a lot of good ideas on how to make use of that technology and we're looking forward to putting them into practice.
However, speaking to other developers in Japan, I've heard a few of them say they were delighted by the Sony motion controller because they can just port over their Wii titles to the PS3."
229w ago - Has Microsoft's Xbox 360 finally cemented itself as the 'it' console for this generation? You know, the most talked about, played, respected and in the forefront of peoples minds?
If listening to the words of US President Obama are to be taken at face value then perhaps so.
To quote: You can't just contract out parenting. For our kids to excel, we have to accept our responsibility to help them learn. That means putting away the Xbox – putting our kids to bed at a reasonable hour. It means attending those parent-teacher conferences and reading to our children and helping them with their homework."
With his recent public comment about 'putting away the Xbox' it makes you wonder why his words focused on the Microsoft brand name. If we're to go by sales then surely the most sold is the Nintendo Wii, yet there was no mention of 'putting away the Wii'.
Maybe Obama's speech writers felt it didn't roll off the tongue as smoothly as Xbox, but at least it proves that the masses understand and recognize the Xbox branding, which last generation would have certainly been PlayStation.
235w ago - A few months ago SCEE confirmed news that Andrew House would be replacing David Reeves as president.
That being said, it appears the new president of SCEE isn't wasting any time taking over the reins from David Reeves and causing a stir.
After having been in his new office for only a little over a month, House is already making daring statements, telling Edge-Online in an interview that he believes Wii owners will eventually 'upgrade' to PS3, and that the PS3's lifecycle could "significantly" exceed ten years.
To quote: "If you look back at previous lifecycles, like PS2 versus N64 [sic], we have lots of data that suggests that lots of people bought into N64 as their entry level gaming device, and were happy to upgrade to a more powerful machine later in the lifecycle when the price point was right for them."
"I think we're going to see this later on PS3, and the fact that it's a Blu-ray player as well and that there's a [greater] wealth of network based experiences than are perhaps available on the device they already have will add to the proposition. I think that will...
