5w ago - Following up on the previous PS3 Ban Wave and more recent PS4 Ban Wave, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 users are now reporting that a massive PS4 and PS3 ban wave is hitting COD: Ghosts with Activision stating the bans will not be reversed.

Below are the details, to quote: Reports are beginning to surface of a massive ban wave that appears to be primarily targeting PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 users playing Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Ghosts.

While most of the bans are presumably just, a number of users are claiming bans were issued to them through error and are looking to resolve the mistake.

User “tcsdaniels” wrote a lengthy post on the official Call of Duty: Ghosts forums explaining his situation, saying that he and his son have been permanently banned, despite their more casual approach to the game. ”After a bit of research and reviewing the past week or so of the games my son and I played, we believe the innocent players that did not either back out of a hacked...

189w ago - Update: Many users including namdlo and nannou have pointed out the picture is dated, and have determined this scare to be more of a wake-up call than a true Sony PS3 ban wave over the PS JailBreak PS3 modchip.

As expected, with the release of the PSGroove open-source PS JailBreak PS3 exploit Sony is fighting back and now banning PS3 consoles, with the PSN ban wave error code being 8002A227.

Forum user StandardBus of Italian site ModdingStudio.com (linked above) first reported this, and based on the PSJB Backup Manager ID apparently Sony is banning the OpenPSID or PS3 MAC address... meaning another PSN account won't do you any good.

Needless to say, PlayStation 3 consoles will soon be shipping with an updated PS3 Firmware revision to patch the exploit.

Below is the rough translation from StandardBus on the PS JailBreak PS3 console bans:

"Predictably, in the end it happened. Maybe some of you were already aware of...
