There's general agreement that Sony stumbled out of the gate with the PlayStation 3. Months of intense hype were followed by a late launch (fully a year after the Xbox 360) and a staggering $600 price tag for the deluxe model.
Even worse, the PS3 didn't initially have any real must-have exclusive titles, and despite the power of its vaunted Cell processor, multiplatform games from third-party developers didn't look appreciably better than the respective titles on the Xbox 360.
Since then, the company's been modifying the PlayStation product line to better fit the competitive market landscape. As of August 2008, a new "bargain" PS3 is available with a larger, 80GB hard drive, and a "deluxe" model is due in November, doubling the capacity to 160GB.

Here’s the response from Sony regarding PlayStation sales for August.
PS3 continued to generate impressive sales in August 2008, with 185,353 hardware units sold. From January to August 2008, more than 2 million PS3s have been sold in the U.S., representing a year-to-date hardware sales growth of more than 92%. Software sales were also strong for PS3, with 1.6 million units sold, representing a year-over-year growth of 92%
• Electronic Arts Sports’ Madden NFL 09 proved to be a hot seller on PlayStation platforms in August, with more than 1.1 million copies purchased by PlayStation customers, not including the Madden NFL 09 ® (PlayStation® Portable) Entertainment Pack. 643,000 units of the popular sports title were sold for PS3 alone, a 33% higher attach rate than Xbox 360 and representing an increase of 90% year-over-year when compared to Madden NFL 08 sales for PS3 in August 2007.

Since its launch, the PS3's momentum has been sluggish at best, with the exception of the large spike generated in June due to the release of Metal Gear Solid 4.
The head start Microsoft got in releasing its next gen console, and its early slew of great exclusives such as Mass Effect, Dead Rising, Gears of War and Halo 3, among others, yielded many early adopters who have begun their next gen libraries on the Xbox 360 and have no great reason to shell out for another expensive console. This year may be poised to change that.
In 2008, the PS3 will follow Metal Gear Solid 4's magnificent success with big titles such as Little Big Planet, Resistance 2, Killzone 2. These all make nice additions to the PS3's exclusive lineup, which already includes critically acclaimed titles like Uncharted, Ratche & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Warhawk, and Heavenly Sword. March 23rd 2007. This was the date that many Europeans had been anxiously awaiting, counting down to the day that they would get their shiny piece of the future. Expecting to find graphics that blew away the competition, and features that left all before it in the dust, many early adopters fired up the latest iteration of the Playstation only to be met with a system that lacked support, and had only a handful of exclusive features.
It is true that on launch day the PS3 did not seem to be the powerhouse, or gamer’s choice machine that it promised to be. Home is highly anticipated throughout the PlayStation community. Many are saying that this is going to change the way we socialise on our consoles, and we here at That Gaming Site agree, well just myself and Ankido. Mehar our Xbox reporter and founder of the site, has different opinions, which will be expressed a bit later on.
Innovation seems to be a huge part of the Sony label. They keep bringing new creations and ideas to the table all the time. We’ve heard and seen the likes of Eye Pet, MAG, Little Big Planet, and the big Sony project, they called Home. Like I said before. Home is highly anticipated by many and is set to deliver a whole new console experience.
So with all this hype and excitement surrounding Home, Microsoft must be slightly worried? Or so we would all assume right? What “Game Plan” does Microsoft have to tackle the long awaited release of Home? Is it the new Dash Board and avatars? We will start with my opinions on this.
