Video: There Came an Echo: Absurd Voice Cast, PS4 Story Details

100°
5w ago - Iridium Studios Lead Designer Jason Wishnov made available a PS4 video trailer for There Came an Echo, which features an absurd voice cast with PlayStation 4 Story details below.

To quote: So, we're indie developers. By and large, indie folk don't really do "story" the same way larger developers do... it's usually more minimalistic, and for lack of a better word, "artsy". Which is cool! There's space in the gaming sphere for everything, even whatever Suda 51's up to these days.

Still, we don't think "indie" and "complex narrative with well-developed characters and realistic dialogue" are mutually exclusive.

The voice command gameplay of There Came an Echo and its script were developed in conjunction with one another - the story is an integral part of the experience, not something tacked on after the fact.

The four members of your squadron aren't mindless military drones, but real people with imperfections, desires, and fears. And snark. They're pretty snarky.

And voice acting. If you've got voice acting, it better be good, or it's going to completely ruin the experience. Luckily, we're located in Hollywood, and we happen to know some people who are very good at saying things we tell...

Video: There Came an Echo: Voice-controlled Strategy on PS4

50°
36w ago - Iridium Studios Lead Designer Jason Wishnov shared a video today spotlighting There Came an Echo, a voice-controlled strategy game on PS4.

To quote: Hey, PlayStation fans! Quick backstory: we were making this game, and market research showed us that people who own PS4s like games.

After extensive trend analysis and writing numbers down on paper in the hopes of making it look like we knew basic mathematics, we made the executive decision to bring our title, There Came an Echo, over to the Sony side of town. There's a trailer above, which you should probably watch, but if you didn't, it's okay, we're cool.

There Came an Echo is, if you'll pardon the torrent of hyphens, a voice-controlled squad-based real-time strategy game. You don't play directly as the soldiers in the field, but rather as the tactical commander, issuing strategic orders via headset.

Ever felt annoyed when someone in your earpiece told you what to do in a blockbuster, AAA first-person shooter? Well, now, you're the someone in the earpiece. Some direct influences on the game include X-COM: Enemy Unknown and Tom Clancy's EndWar.

A lot of you might feel a little antsy about voice recognition. And we understand! But we'd...

PS4 Automatic Game Caching, PlayStation 4 Voice Commands & More

100°
60w ago - Following up on his previous update, today Sony's Shuhei Yoshida discusses PS4 automatic game caching, voice commands without the PlayStation 4 PS Eye and more below!

To quote: Shuhei Yoshida via his personal Twitter account has revealed never heard before details about PlayStation 4.

Yoshida first confirmed that PlayStation 4 does automatic cashing to games, and its not the mandatory install. This is really huge news for Playstation 4, it basically mean, if you want to play CoD Ghosts and Killzone, you won't need 100GB of space (50GB each,) you'll just need 50GB to cache them. That's so cool!

  • David Magalhaes (DiamondDM13): Sorry to ask this here, but I'm confused. Does the PS4 have mandatory game installs to the HDD? Or is that optional?
  • Shuhei Yoshida (yosp): it's automatic, not install but caching data

Furthermore, Yoshida went on to confirmed Voice Commands are available without PlayStation Eye i.e via available via Mic and DualShock 4 controller.

  • Jefferson Keane (Jefferson_Keane): Voice commands are available without PS eye ? I mean with the mic and the DS4 ?
  • Shuhei Yoshida...

Tales of Voice Recording: A Tales of Xillia Update for PlayStation 3

300°
111w ago - Tales of Xillia North American Producer Ted Tsung has a shared voice recording update today for Tales of Xillia on the PlayStation 3 entertainment system.

Below are the details, to quote: Hello everyone, my name is Ted Tsung and I am the North American Producer for Tales of Xillia for [Register or Login to view links].

I'm happy to announce that we recently completed our voice recording session for the game, an extremely important part of the localization process. It's a huge milestone for us to pass and it means that Tales of Xillia is that much closer to its 2013 release.

Eight hours of voice recording across an eight week span, filled with late nights catching up on emails, proofing, and preparation for the following day. It's a grueling process that's both physically and mentally taxing.

Despite this, it was a fantastic experience, thanks to the support from Cup of Tea, 8-4, and the voice actors. I might be looking through rose-tinted glasses, but you won't find a better group of people.

It's always impressive to see how well voice actors can improvise on the spot. They have very little interaction with each other. The most exposure they'll get with one another is hearing a voice that may be played back for reference....

To quote: My name is Ian Pickles and I am the Producer from XDev Studio Europe working on PlayStation Vita's all-new social brain training experience, Smart As.

I'm here with some exciting news to share. I am delighted to confirm that John Cleese, the English actor, comedian, writer and film producer is injecting his unique personality and sophisticated sense of humor into the game as the voice of Smart As.

Best known for his hilarious antics as a member of the Monty Python comedy troupe, it's great to be able to confirm the comedy legend's participation in the game.

His instantly recognizable voice and distinctive style deliver intelligent and witty narration during the game, always encouraging and sometimes teasing you to improve every time you play.

Regardless of how smart you are, John's creative and comedic dialogue will keep you hooked as you play to improve your Brain Power score and pursue your goal to outsmart the world.

The decision to approach John to work on the game came about a couple of months ago. We were incredibly happy with the game - the looks, presentation and gameplay are second to none, but we felt...
