Snake’s tale might be in its final stages, but the hype surrounding it seems to be growing at an unprecedented level.
The community has waited with bated breath and digested the release of every ounce of gameplay, trailers, retrospective chronicles arising from the stables of Kojima productions, and this syndrome of hype seems spiraling choke gamers out of their last ounce of breath.
Well adding fuel to fire, here are a few healthy does of petrol to douse (or rather flame) expectations about the game further.
- The introduction cut scene for the game is close to 17 minutes long (that’s a short film in itself). If we remember that once in 1964 (MGS 3) Kojima implemented pseudo-interactive cutscenes, well there is certain well defined upgrade to this feature with probable camera shifts during the cutscenes.
- An average in-game cutscene is about 5 to 7 minutes long and as we all know there are no loading times between cutscene and ... More »
Seriously, we've been playing Metal Gear games for a long time, and every release gets us more and more excited. There was the killer story in Metal Gear Solid, the bar-setting graphics in Metal Gear Solid 2, the camouflage system in Metal Gear Solid 3 and the squad building mechanics of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.
Bravo.
But accolades aside, you've filed a tall order when it comes to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Not only is this title supposedly closing out the series, it's got a truckload of loose ends to tie up. It's one of the PlayStation 3's biggest exclusives, it's got to be innovative while feeling familiar and it's got to live up to the hype.
Whew. We're sure there's a lot of pressure on your shoulders, and we're here to add more. What follows is a list of ten things we want to see in MGS4. You don't have to include them, but as loyal fans, we'd love it if you did.
Back when LEGO Star Wars was first announced people were understandably skeptical of the feasibility of creating a videogame based on not one, but two franchises, and still having it be fun to play. Nevertheless, Traveller's Tales stepped up to the challenge and melded a cute art style with innocently engaging gameplay that clicked with an alarming number of players.
Now Batman is being charged with wrapping his storied franchise around a world built by LEGOs. While we were once again skeptical of the ability of the characters to make the transition, after seeing the game at this year's Game Developer's Conference we've learned to keep our thoughts to ourselves.
One of my first concerns was the fact that there aren't three Batman movies that are worth being turned into a LEGO title. To get around that problem Traveller's Tales is creating a new storyline featuring a boatload of the characters from the Batman universe. While we did pry into the number of total... More »
While there are still a lot of games that haven't been announced yet, with the new year, it's worth taking a look at some of the games that are going to be ringing in the cash when the ball drops for 2009. 2008 was a stellar, record-setting year in the videogame industry, and 2008 should top those records (assuming Wii demand continues). There are certainly plenty of killer apps coming out on the software side.
Grand Theft Auto IV--Rockstar Games delayed the first next gen iteration of its best-selling franchise to this year, which means record sales are guaranteed (even more PS3s and Xbox 360s will be in homes by then). This Mature-rated franchise, like Halo, needs only to ship to attract its legions of fans. Seeing what next gen adds to the virtual New York City setting will definitely be worth the extra wait, especially with no load screens and exclusive downloadable missions on 360.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl--With online gameplay and a huge cast of character... More »
Ninja Gaiden 2 is coming to the Nintendo Wii. Yes, you read that correctly. However, your short-term eyes may deceive you a bit, because it's actually the original Ninja Gaiden 2 from the NES, subtitled "The Dark Sword of Chaos."
Ninja Gaiden 2: The Dark Sword of Chaos is one of three games headed to the Wii's Virtual Console today at 9am PST. The three-deep roster of today's Virtual Console games is comprised of:
Ninja Gaiden 2: The Dark Sword of Chaos: In Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos, a new villain, Ashtar, is revealed. Take on the role of Ryu Hayabusa and rescue Irene Lew, a former CIA agent, from Ashtar. Destroy the Sword of Chaos, a weapon of great power forged from the bone of a demon. Use techniques such as the Fire Wheel or the Windmill Throwing Star and attack while holding on to walls and ladders. Use the most innovative technique of all: the ability to create Shadow Clones, orange shadow versions of Ryu that will constantly follow him, r... More »
This year's Fall is very, very crowded. Even with titles such as GTA 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4 slipping into 2008, the remaining months of 2007 will undoubtedly burn a whole through gamers' pockets. With that in mind, PSU's compiled a Top 5 list of titles that you absolutely must get before the year is out. Do some more chores, work overtime, demand them for Christmas or simply stop buying your girlfriend gifts (a last resort, of course).
