Video: There Came an Echo: Voice-controlled Strategy on PS4

1w ago - Iridium Studios Lead Designer Jason Wishnov shared a video today spotlighting There Came an Echo, a voice-controlled strategy game on PS4.

To quote: Hey, PlayStation fans! Quick backstory: we were making this game, and market research showed us that people who own PS4s like games.

After extensive trend analysis and writing numbers down on paper in the hopes of making it look like we knew basic mathematics, we made the executive decision to bring our title, There Came an Echo, over to the Sony side of town. There's a trailer above, which you should probably watch, but if you didn't, it's okay, we're cool.

There Came an Echo is, if you'll pardon the torrent of hyphens, a voice-controlled squad-based real-time strategy game. You don't play directly as the soldiers in the field, but rather as the tactical commander, issuing strategic orders via headset.

Ever felt annoyed when someone in your earpiece told you what to do in a blockbuster, AAA first-person shooter? Well, now, you're the someone in the earpiece. Some direct influences on the game include X-COM: Enemy Unknown and Tom Clancy's EndWar.

A lot of you might feel a little antsy about voice recognition. And we understand! But we'd...

Video: PS4 Keyboard and Mouse Support for PlayStation 4 Games Demo

2w ago - Below is a demonstration video of unofficial PS4 Keyboard and Mouse support for PlayStation 4 games courtesy of electrical engineer and DIY hobbyist Frank Zhao (aka frank26080115) via Eleccelerator (linked above).

To quote: Keyboard and Mouse for PlayStation 4 Games (second prototype)

Why did you do this?

I like playing shooter games on PC but my laptop is too weak to play them. Game consoles do not support USB keyboards and USB mouse, they only support gamepads. Gamepad controls are not suitable for shooter games, using a keyboard and mouse is much more comfortable for gameplay.

How does it work?

I designed a circuit that features a microcontroller and USB hub. The keyboard and mouse plugs into the USB hub, and then the microcontroller takes the data from the keyboard and mouse, translates them to the data format used by the PlayStation 4. It does the translation in a way as though the mouse was the right thumbstick, and the keys are mapped to buttons (the WASD keys are mapped to the left thumbstick).

Video: Telltale Games: Tales from the Borderlands Detailed at SXSW

6w ago - Telltale Games Community Lead Laura Perusco shared details and video footage today on Tales from the Borderlands from SXSW below.

To quote: Hey everyone! This weekend, Telltale Games, Gearbox, and 2K Games unveiled Tales from the Borderlands at SXSW with the very first details from the upcoming series... and we have the full video of the panel right here to share with you!

We can finally reveal that you will play as TWO protagonists: Rhys, a Hyperion company man with a robotic arm and a knack for hacking; and Fiona, a fast-talking con artist.

The story will be told from both of their perspectives, and here's the twist: both of these characters are lying jerks, so you're never playing what REALLY happened. It's more like playing each of their interpretations of events, and the truth lies somewhere in between...

Set on Pandora after the events of Borderlands 2 and all its DLC, Tales from the Borderlands will explore characters who aren't your typical heroes or badasses. Rhys and Fiona aren't vault hunters, but they definitely have their own agendas, doing whatever swindling, cheating, or backstabbing they need to in order to survive.

Rest assured it's not all talk, either - there'll...

17w ago - Today 505 Games Senior Brand Manager Richard Gittins announced Terraria officially arrives on PlayStation Vita.

To quote: We're delighted to be giving PS Vita players the chance to jump into the world of Terraria, and satisfy the requests of so many fans in the process.

The core game that so many Terrarians know and love remains the same, however the Vita has allowed us to introduce a bunch of new features and functionality, making the Vita version super-fun to play and great looking at the same time!

It's the revamped control system that's seen the most focus this time around, in terms of really delivering something new and unique; introducing touch support to make the gameplay experience more immediate, tactile, and absorbing.

You can use touch controls to combine and craft intuitively within the item interface, but also when digging, building, and creating your own environments - this time with added finesse.

You can also jump in and enjoy online multiplayer with up to eight players, whether that's battling each other in a fight for survival, or teaming up to take on bosses and build bigger and better worlds together.

Not only that, but you've got the added benefits of cross platform play and cross save with your PS3. Play Terraria against...

Video: SOMA: Frictional Games Brings Sci-Fi Horror to PlayStation 4

100°
27w ago - Frictional Games Creative Director Thomas Grip shared a video today spotlighting SOMA, an upcoming Sci-Fi Horror title to Sony's PlayStation 4 video game console.

Below are the details, to quote: Hi, I am Thomas Grip, creative director at Frictional Games, an indie studio based in Sweden.

We have been crafting horror games since 2006 and are probably most famous for having created Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Previously, we have only developed for PC, but this time our new title will be released for PS4 as well!

For the last three years, we have been working on a game called SOMA. All that time, this project has remained a secret – it's a great relief to finally be able to talk about it. This game is by far the most ambitious and thrilling project we have ever undertaken.

So, what exactly is SOMA? Briefly stated, it is a sci-fi horror game played from a first person perspective. You are not a space marine though; you're a normal, very exposed person trapped in a nightmarish world. SOMA is a game about exploration, survival and immersing you inside an interactive narrative.

That short description...
