PowerMad Review of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for PS3

500°
285w ago - This is Uncharted Drake's fortune for the PlayStation 3 gaming console. I just want to tell you in advance, that no matter what anyone says, if you are in the recommendations below BUY, THIS, GAME!

Uncharted is one of the best games you can get the PlayStation 3, it reminds me of Metal Gear Solid 4, Tomb Raider, and Jak & Daxter. So as you can see if you had to pick a from a combination of awesomeness, chances are you would end up with Uncharted.

But Uncharted is much more then just a cheesy knock off of those 3 games. The storyline (although reminds me of Jak & Daxter) is one of the best on the current generation of consoles.

You follow 2 main characters (Nathan Drake & Elena fisher) as they search for a 500 year old treasure Nathans ancestor left behind and their only clue is a old treasure map they found in his grave.

Once you get 3 hours into the game a large amount of the plot unfolds but trust me, what I leave out due to spoiling is great. In fact if you liked the Jak & Daxter storyline and game play, I can almost reassure you that you will like this game.

The game play is what it took from Metal Gear Solid 4 and Tomb Raider. Not a plain copy I still believe that Metal Gear Solid 4 had...

Is Uncharted: Drake's Fortune the Gears Of War Killer?

300°
286w ago - I'll make this abundantly clear off the bat: despite some of the more significant technical glitches in Gears of War 2, it was easily one of the best games of 2008 and certainly one of the best of the generation.

However, I found Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to be a cleaner, and ultimately more entertaining, production. Yes, I'm talking about the first Uncharted and the most recent Gears.

Considering that it's silly to compare either Resistance 2 or Killzone 2 to Gears, the closest PlayStation 3-exclusive competitor is Naughty Dog's new series... and in all honesty, I see Uncharted eventually surpassing Epic's series in terms of overall quality and fun factor (yes, I'm aware the latter is subjective).

Even though there was plenty of critical acclaim and the game sold very well, I still think Drake's Fortune is one of the most overlooked titles of the generation. This is due to a number of factors: first, the PS3 had been out for only a year - and a rough year at that - when the game launched, and it simply didn't reach a very large audience. Second, it wasn't an established franchise and typically, IPs don't fare as well as hotly anticipated sequels.

Third, Sony's bad marketing and promotion left Uncharted out in the cold, but we're starting to see a reversal in that lagging advertising,...

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Update

356w ago - Though the holiday release season is nearly half over, Sony still has a handful of big titles up its sleeve slated to hit this year. Naughty Dog's first PlayStation 3 title, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, could turn out to not only be the best PS3 title of the season, but the best all year. Its mix of action and adventure looks like it was ripped straight out of an Indiana Jones film, and the game looks tighter and tighter every time we see it.

Yesterday we were able to check out a few snippets of some indoor-based locales from the game, the Customs House and Catacombs. The Customs House is where folks would check in and out anything going through the island, just like you'd do at an airport or whatnot these days. With the amount of gold, spices and such being ported around the seas in those days, it was a heavily-trafficked area.

These days the building is quite dilapidated, but that doesn't mean it isn't beautiful. Outside, vines creep in and out of a balcony that has fallen into ruin over time, which Nathan must carefully navigate by jumping from ledge to ledge. Inside, a series of outlaws blanket the floor where pillars lay broken and crumbled.

It's here that we saw some of the refined animation features in place in the current build. Thanks to the game's blending technology, different...
