Project Morpheus: Experiencing PS4's Virtual Reality Prototype

50°
4w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman detailed Project Morpheus today, sharing his experiences with PS4's Virtual Reality Prototype.

Below are all the details, to quote: Project Morpheus is PlayStation's prototype virtual reality system for PS4, announced earlier this week at GDC.

Despite its pre-release status, Morpheus is a sleek, eye-catching piece of hardware that feels surprisingly comfy once strapped to your cranium.

This is partly due to a clever design that distributes most of the unit's weight to the top of your head, not the bridge of your nose or other delicate pressure points.

Properly seated, the unit sits snugly over your eyes but rests comfortably on your face. You peer through two separate lenses, which resolves into one immersive, high definition image that provides a convincing sense of depth.

I tried out two demos: EVE Valkyrie, a fast-paced arcade-style dogfighting simulation set in outer space, and The Deep, a face-to-face encounter with a prowling great white shark. Each of these demos was radically different, expressing radically different approaches to virtual reality gaming.

Of the two demos, EVE Valkyrie's...

Shuttle Quest 2000: R-Type Meets Monster Hunter on PS Mobile

50°
29w ago - TACSgames developer Thomas Hopper explained to fans today that Shuttle Quest 2000 is essentially R-Type meets Monster Hunter on PlayStation Mobile.

To quote: Over the last year, I have been working hard to bring fun games to PlayStation Mobile. I have created many titles to fit the many tastes of mobile gamers. My most recent game, Shuttle Quest 2000, is sort of a cross between and R-Type and Monster Hunter.

Become humanity's best shuttle pilot as you confront the evil alien forces of General Xarod. You'll meet many characters on your adventure, including humans, aliens, a pirate robot shop keeper and a very grumpy door.

To make your shuttle more combat-effective, you'll embark on quests, which will give you more resources and money to buy or craft new weapons, items, and drones. Defeating enemy megaships will alert your adversaries and make your job harder, but by conquering them, you will unlock more resources and weapons.

There are tons of different combinations of weapons and drones that you can use to make your shuttle a unique fighting machine.

I'm passionate about classic gaming, so I've done my best to make the game as authentic as possible with retro-accurate graphics, visual effects, chip tune music and sound effects. I wanted to make the space station...

Video: Destiny: Bungie on Customization, Class Types, and Multiplayer

33w ago - Sony French Blog Coordinator Marianne Sartori is here with a fresh video and interview spotlighting Customization, Class Types, and Multiplayer on Bungie's Destiny for PS4 below.

To quote: During Gamescom, I was very pleased to meet with Bungie's David "DeeJ" Dague, who was kind enough to answer questions about Destiny - the studio's keenly anticipated project.

We covered a number of topics, including item customization, class types, weapons, and details on how multiplayer will work.

PlayStation.Blog: Bungie is staying in the science-fiction realm with Destiny. How are things different this time?

DeeJ: Destiny takes place in an entirely new world, with lands that are different from anything that we've created before. And we actually call it "mythic science-fiction," where we're fusing Destiny with science-fiction, fantasy, and mysticism.

I think the players will relate to the heroes of Destiny as knights more than soldiers. Destiny is all about your own personal quest. It's about an epic adventure to solve the mysteries that are encountered through the story.

PSB: The landscapes are post-apocalyptic ones. You mentioned that it would be something people would feel comfortable in.

DeeJ: It is a little...

Retro City Rampage Update Adds Retro+ Mode & Prototype Version

250°
39w ago - Developer Brian Provinciano announced today that their Retro City Rampage update adds Retro+ Mode and a Prototype Version with details below.

To quote: A new Retro City Rampage update has just dropped, which takes things both forward and backward! To celebrate the update, Retro City Rampage is on sale for $4.99.

Not only that, but it's Cross Buy, so this means you're getting both the PS3 and PS Vita versions together for only $2.50 each!

RETRO+ Enhanced Graphics Mode

The "RETRO+" Enhanced Graphics Mode gives RCR a neo-retro boost with dynamic shadows, doubling the colors on screen. The shadows and increased contrast help sprites pop like never before. For purists, the original 8-bit mode is still there in all its glory, but if you're ready for a slight retro remix, RETRO+ is a great new way to enjoy the game.

Prototype Version

"ROM" City Rampage, an 8-bit hardware-accurate prototype has also been added. Drive around Theftropolis with the strict limitations of 1980s hardware, sprite flicker and all.

Compare side by side how closely Retro City Rampage adheres to classic hardware and where it strays, and see what really was possible in 1989. See what actually could've been released on cartridge, had...

47w ago - Community Developer Zack Cooper revealed 2 of 4 Co-Op mission types today in a video spotlighting Splinter Cell Blacklist Co-Op for the PlayStation 3 entertainment system.

Below are the details, to quote: For those who missed the last couple of posts I did here, my name is Zack Cooper. I'm the Splinter Cell Community Developer (ComDev).

Recently we shared the Spies vs. Mercs reveal trailer, and just a few days ago, the CO-OP trailer.

What we bring to you today is a fresh look into the CO-OP experience. This time we're really going all out!

Ubisoft Shanghai is doing the maps, and we are incredibly proud of what they've been putting together. As you may know, they've got a rich history in the Splinter Cell franchise, having led the charge on Pandora Tomorrow and the current-gen version of Double Agent.

Here at Ubisoft Toronto, we're tasked with making sure everything fits appropriately into the grand package of Splinter Cell Blacklist. Not only are there 14 unique missions... there's a ton of variety contained within those missions.

There are four different mission types - two of which we're talking about today. They're given...
