According to a report from Japan's Nikkei business daily via Reuters, Nintendo is planning to launch an updated Nintendo DS model by the end of 2008. Among other options, the new model is expected to feature a built-in camera along with support for the playback of music files.
To quote: Japanese video game maker Nintendo Co Ltd plans to launch a new model of its DS handheld machine that can take pictures and play music by the end of the year, the Nikkei business daily said on Sunday.
The move would pit the top-selling portable game gear with Apple Inc iPod and camera-embedded cellphones in general.
The price for the new machine, which will also be equipped with advanced wireless communications functions, is expected to be below 20,000 yen ($189) in Japan, compared with 16,800 yen for the current model, the Nikkei said.
The Wii game console and DS have been Nintendo's twin growth engines, helping its share price to grow more than thr... More »
A funny thing happened a couple of months ago. After completing the PSP version of God of War, developer Ready At Dawn Studios posted a matter-of-fact news story on their site about how they were packing up their dev kits and sending them back to Sony.
The company behind one of the must-play games on the PSP was giving up on the system completely. Around the same time, Sony itself announced a new partnership program where universities could buy up PSP and PS2 development kits on the cheap. It would seem that Ready At Dawn isn’t the only studio giving up on the system.
Presumably, there is an assembly line at Sony headquarters where the old dev kits are repackaged for uni students. Maybe they throw in some typical student freebie favourites in the box, like free condoms, and booklets about doing drugs responsibly.
At any rate, this phase-out is already being felt at retail. There are fewer and fewe... More »
EA Sports has released the breakdown of all the changes within the roster update for Madden 09 that will be out by (or on) release day. An update has already been done taking care of many of the changes that are detailed even as they continue to add to the upcoming one to make it the most accurate possible.
Last year there was an average of just below two updates a month which would seem sufficient. The problem was a long painful stretch from mid-November to mid-January that lacked any. If they can keep the consistency up this year than everyone should be pleased with the post-release roster support.
One thing that isn’t noted in this list is the fixing of player numbers. I immediately noticed that Julian Peterson had gone from the #59 of last year to the #98 of this year. Continue on to view the complete list of transactions, ratings adjustments, new contract lengths, and injured reserve placement.
Four new game modes could be added to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The news was struck on Robert Bowling blog, Director of Communications/Community Manager for Infinity Ward.
Here are the details of the new game modes from the blog:
"Thanks to everyone who commented, sent in emails, or contacted me via other means; including the epic presentation I received via the mail this morning containing an entire breakdown of a new game mode complete with a full-size fold out poster (thanks Ian!!).
I received a lot of great suggestions and feedback regarding new playlists you guys would like to see, and this weekend I’m going to be hosting a series of private matches in Call of Duty 4 to test them out. So if you haven’t already, be sure to drop me a message on Xbox Live / PSN as I’ll be cleaning off room on my friends list and inviting anyone interested to help out this weekend.
Some of the gametypes we’re going to test out th... More »
Gamer Double-J has written an open letter to the world, telling about his frustration against Valve/EA, and citing the numerous issues encountered in the PlayStation 3 version of The Orange Box.
Here is the letter: "Dear Madam or Sir,
I am writing to you today in the hopes you might be able to help myself and thousands of others with the problems we are experiencing with the PlayStation 3 version of Valve/Electronic Arts The Orange Box.
The problems concerning The Orange Box for the PS3 are two-fold. First, we are dealing with numerous bugs, glitches, and server issues that have rendered the game unplayable at times and have remained since the game was originally released in October 2007.
More troublesome is the fact that our many attempts to contact Valve and EA through traditional channels —telephone, e-mail, and regular post— have fallen upon deaf ears. In a complete disregard for the large community of gamers who are ... More »
Lips is a new game that is pretty much like Singstar. There will be 30 songs you can sing along to, some of which are by well known people, while others are by lesser knowns.
Sue me if I'm wrong, having never played Singstar, but it also brings some new features to the fold like being able to upload your own songs and sing along to them. Plus there will be downloadable songs, too.
30 songs: The songs include a mix of popular songs like Madonna, and local songs specific to the United Kingdom.
2 Wireless Interactive Microphones: Wireless mics are interactive, with lights on the shaft of the microphone that pulse to the rhythm of your voice, and motion sensors that allow you to dance, move or swing to score points.
Use your own music: Take songs from CD or your iPod, and upload them into the game. The game will reduce the vocals so you can sing along and be heard, and score you on whether you’re in tune. Lyrics can also be added dire... More »
It's been a long time coming, but 06/12 is finally here. For months, I've held a secret, something that may have the shear potential to ultimately unlock the PS3. A few select, knew of my work, and my prospects for this project, and a few select others were told "06/12 is the day."
Explanation: So on this day I give to you a PS3 Tri-Fold Attack Potential release (and Update 1.0 Files, NOT NEEDED- but for those who want to examine the file verification system), all stemming from one game that has a very grave security flaw.
Call of Duty 3: Many games prior to discovering this one, had great potential to write files to the PS3 HDD, such as Resistance: FoM, Motorstorm, and Warhawk. Warhawk was a particularly good one at that cause at the time we managed to overwrite other game param.sfo's.
Anyone who has played the Nintendo 64, Gamecube or DS version of Nintendo’s prized Animal Crossing series will know that they are some of, if not the, most addictive games you will ever play.
Wild world on the DS has gone on to sell eight million copies globally since launch and becomes one of the DS’s best selling games. When Nintendo confirmed that a Wii version of the game was in the works the excitement started to build so we compiled a list of what we at pwnamon would like to see in the game… and why it will be Game of the year.
Multiplayer
Wild world included a 4 online multiplayer mode. You could run around the town in free-roam and do whatever you wanted. It was great fun, and we at pwnamon hope that Nintendo build on this. Four players was fun, but if Nintendo cranked this up to eight, or even sixteen, players this could become the Wiis biggest game.
With parties, clan meetings, customisation of the house and characters, thi... More »
