According to Shae5O9 from the official PS boards, Sony's PlayStation Home is being promoted as one of the PlayStation Network's features to gamers who are creating new PSN accounts.

Many are hoping that this means Sony will stick to their word and release the PlayStation Home Open BETA soon.

Jack Tretton, SCEA president, recently said that the PlayStation Home Open BETA will launch this November.

However, Kazuo Hirai, president and group chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment recently said we will see the "Open BETA by the end of this year" which is slightly contradictory.

Needless to say, only time will tell for sure.

Microsoft’s Xbox Live boss has told MCV that Xbox 360 definitely has the power to “handle” Metal Gear Solid 4 – and talked of his admiration for “Kojima-san’s masterpiece”.

John Schappert, the firm's corporate vice-president of Live, Software and Services, said that he would “love to see the game come to 360", and boasted of Xbox’s “horsepower”.

His comments came after Konami’s Yoshitaka Arai allegedly told a Japanese newspaper: “The worldwide demand for an Xbox 360 version of MGS4 is quite high, and it is something we are currently looking in to.”

Sony US boss Jack Tretton previously told MCV that MGS4 on Xbox 360 was an "impossibility".

To quote Schappert: “I’m certainly in the fan club that would love to see Kojima-san’s masterpiece come our way. It would be wonderful to play Metal Gear Solid on the Xbox. It could become another of the many franchises that started their life on anothe... More »

The President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA), Jack Tretton, has told the Financial Times that he has no qualms about Sony meeting their corporate goals and selling every PS3 they manufacture.

Tretton was also asked whether the consoles stands now after a shaky first years. "Gamers are coming back to us, we are selling a higher percentage of games such as Madden NFL and Grand Theft Auto, because people are choosing the PS3 [over the Xbox].

Sales are up over 100 per cent and we are tracking well ahead of what we expected." Tretton replied.

To quote: Where do you stand right now in the console wars after a somewhat shaky first year?

Sony CEO Jack Tretton is quite ecstatic with the way their Cell powered beast is selling this year. Speaking in an interview with Reuters, Tretton reveals that the PS3 is actually selling faster than they previously expected it would.

They projected that the PS3 would be able to sell 10 million units by March of next year. (Just so you know, March of next year = end of fiscal year 2008).

Tretton didn't reveal the specific figure of how many PS3 units they've already sold to date - much less which firm's sales data he's keeping track of - however, he seems confident that they'll hit their 10-million mark by March '09, no matter what happens.

To quote: "We are in good shape for that number worldwide. We are tracking at 100 percent up over last year ... about 30 percent ahead of where we should be. So sales could slow down and we will still hit our number."

One of the things I remember from this year’s E3 is when Jack Tretton said that the year 2008 is the year where the PlayStation 3 will rise up to its competitiors. With the launching of the PlayStation Video Store this year, and LittleBigPlanet finally approaching by the end of the year, is 2008 really the year of the PlayStation 3?

The PlayStation 3 has lost a lot of third party exclusive games this year such as Devil May Cry 4, Grand Theft Auto IV, Ace Combat 6, Tales of Vesperia, and Star Ocean 4, but this doesn’t stop Sony from going. Even though Sony has lost the faith of its third party developers, they have big studios all around the world to bring you first party exclusive titles that we await this year, such as Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet.

Will these first party titles of Sony be enough to sustain the glory that the PlayStation brand once had? Will this year’s Holiday titles be enough? With 111 days left before year 2009 kicks in,... More »

With the PlayStation 3 40GB model slowly being phased out, it’s time to make room for a brand-new addition to the PS3 hardware lineup - an Uncharted Drake’s Fortune PS3 bundle.

In North America specifically, it’s slated to hit in November at an MSRP of $499.99 and includes the aforementioned game, a voucher for PSN title PAIN, a DualShock 3 wireless controller, and a 160GB hard drive.

Over in Europe, the bundle is due out October 31. Configuration-wise there will be no difference, aside from the fact that it’ll include an “additional PSN title,” according to SCEE, which may or may not be PAIN.

Sony was quick to mention that this bundle will retain “all the same functionality” as the new 80GB that’s popping up on retail shelves here in the U.S. That means no backwards compatibility, but you should be used to that now.

David Reeves has confirmed that the PlayStation Home BETA will arive with the same specs, same support, and same time in Autumn 2008 in Europe and the US. An exact date for its released was also promised to be revealed 'very shortly'.

To quote: During a press conference in Santa Monica, SCEE President, David Reeves, said the online 3D community service would arrive "with the same specs, same support and at the same time in autumn 2008." He went on to say that an exact date for its release would be announced by SCEI "very shortly."

Home has been delayed by almost a year from its original launch date. The service creates a virtual social environment to interact with other PS3 users, launch online games such as Warhawk, play mini-games such as bowling and pool, share private content and show off your personal space customised with furniture, wallpaper and other items.

Jack Tretton insisted that "your patience will be more than rewarded" durin... More »
