Video: Toy Soldiers: War Chest on PS4 - PlayStation 4 Hands-on

50°
3w ago - Sony Social Media Senior Manager Sid Shuman shared a PS4 video today showcasing Toy Soldiers: War Chest going hands-on with PlayStation 4 below.

To quote: If I'm frank, I wasn't really sure I was the right fit for this game. Mostly because I'd never played the earlier entries in the (well-respected) Toy Soldiers series, but also because toy collector culture doesn't much tickle my fancy.

So imagine my surprise when I went hands-on with Toy Soldiers: War Chest on PS4 and discovered not just a clever fusion of tower defense and third-person action, but a fiendishly addictive vortex that quickly reduced me to shrieking "kablammo! kablammo! boooosh!" while I bombarded hordes of rainbow ponies with mortars. Watch our new video above for the full story.

At its core, Toy Soldiers: War Chest is a classic tower defense game set in three-dimensional environments, a nice upgrade from the static 2D backdrops of most TD titles. You'll set up turrets in between waves of approaching enemies, feverishly upgrading and repairing them to prevent being overrun.

You earn gold by slaying incoming enemy hordes, then spend the proceeds on new specialized turrets (anti-armor, anti-infantry, anti-air) and fancy upgrades that increase your attack range, damage and so forth. So far, so good - it's...

168w ago - HandCircus founder Simon Oliver has revealed more details on Okabu: The PSN Physics Toybox today which will be heading to PlayStation Network soon.

To quote: [Register or Login to view links] is a really small team - there are only five of us at the studio! In addition to myself, we have Mikko and Matt handling art needs, Luke spearheading programming and Shane tackling level design. We've also been working with [Register or Login to view links], who have been crafting Okabu's original, authentic African-inspired soundtrack.

Their studio has been filled to the rafters with all manner of exotic instruments like Marimbas, Kalimbas, Vibraphones as well as some extremely talented vocalists.

Always-on Co-op

Co-op is at the core of the game. Even single player is a co-op experience because it allows you to swap between Kumulo and Nimbe (and they hero that they may be carrying) at any time.

Much of the game revolves around using the different skills of the heroes together - get Monkfish to pull open a door, then Picolo can lure a bull through and get it to take out a dastardly Dozabot. If there's two of you the game is even more fun, as each of you can take control of Kumulo or Nimbe.

Let's...

Video: PlayStation EyeToy - Innovation and Beyond for PS3

202w ago - Sony Computer Entertainment America's Senior Researcher Richard Marks takes a look back at the EyeToy today, starting with the PlayStation 2 all the way to the PlayStation Move through video footage!

To quote: It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since the PlayStation 2 launched and 11 years since I first started here at Sony Computer Entertainment America.

Over the last decade, I've had the privilege of working on some of PlayStation's latest and greatest - the EyeToy being one of my first big projects when I joined the company in 1999.

The EyeToy USB camera was the first of its kind to translate your body movements into game controls, map your face onto in-game characters and more. It was created to allow you to physically interact with games, such as Antigrav, EyeToy Play and Kinetic, using your body.

The unencumbered feeling of no wires and feeling free (instead of connected to your television) was very important, as was the simplicity of the controls. Everyone, even non-gamers, felt like they could just jump in and play, which was great.

We learned a lot from our experience creating EyeToy, and it has definitely played a significant role in the development of PlayStation Move. We've pulled together a quick look back at the technology...
