TowerFall Dark World Expansion Coming Early 2015 to PlayStation 4

50°
5w ago - Indie Game Developer Matt Makes Games Inc Matt Thorson confirmed today that their TowerFall Dark World Expansion is coming in early 2015 to PlayStation 4.

To quote: It's hard to believe that it's been 8 months since TowerFall Ascension launched on PS4. I have to thank all of our wonderful fans on PlayStation - the community response has been fantastic.

Since launching TowerFall, we've had countless requests for new levels, characters, power-ups, and modes. A lot of your suggestions have been really valuable, and after I recovered from the game's launch back in March, I began forming new ideas of my own. Slowly but surely, our plans for an expansion took shape. I'm excited to announce that the Dark World Expansion will hit PS4 in early 2015.

We want to call this an expansion rather than DLC, because it expands the game in every direction rather than providing small incremental additions. Approaching it this way allows us to tie all the new stuff together in a very cohesive manner. For you this means more playable archers, levels, modes, power-ups, variants, trials, and more.

Joining the roster we have the red archer, the Vainglorious Ghoul. As her appearance suggests, she captains an infamous ghost ship known as The Amaranth. The Amaranth, it turns out, is also one of four...

In the land of TowerFall you engage the noble and brutal tradition of bow-and-arrow combat either on your own or with up to four friends for hilarious, intense versus matches.

TowerFall Ascension is the 'director's cut' version of the game, with 50 new versus levels, four more playable archers, an all-new 12-player cooperative Quest mode and six additional power-ups.

Next up on PS, we've teamed up with our friends at Capcom to bring you their hugely entertaining action title Strider! The game tells the story of Hiryu, the youngest ever "Super A" ranked...

TowerFall Ascension on PS4: Behind the Arena on PlayStation 4

40w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements goes behind the arena today in TowerFall Ascension PS4 on PlayStation 4 with an interview below.

To quote: TowerFall Ascension launched on PS4 earlier this week, introducing PlayStation gamers to an addictive, challenging, and delightfully pure arena game. With an electric, competitive design and an all new, co-op Quest mode, TowerFall Ascension is a great reminder of why local multiplayer is so much fun.

I touched base with TowerFall creator Matt Thorson to hear more about what inspired TowerFall, how it feels on PS4, and what it was like working as a small indie developer. My thanks to Matt for spending time on PlayStation.Blog!

PlayStation.Blog: What inspired your original vision of TowerFall? Did you always have a competitive element in mind since the game's conception?

Matt Thorson: I tried a lot of things with TowerFall early on, with a focus on single-player gameplay. But the competitive modes just clicked, and it was obvious I had to follow the game in that direction. I realized, once I started designing the versus gameplay, that I had been thinking about local multiplayer for years. I was happy to finally have an outlet for those ideas.

Video: TowerFall Ascension PS4 is Out Today on PlayStation 4

50°
40w ago - Matt Makes Games Inc Indie Game Developer Matt Thorson announced that TowerFall Ascension PS4 is out today on PlayStation 4 with details below.

To quote: Today's the day! TowerFall Ascension is finally launching on PS4. TowerFall is an archery platformer featuring intense local multiplayer battles and a dynamic solo - or co-op - Quest mode. Grab your friends and pack onto your couch for a night of close calls, surprise victories, and hilarious missteps.

The reviews began rolling in a few days ago, and I'm absolutely floored by the response. I'm not usually one to put a lot of stock in those dubious numbers emblazoned in bold at the bottom of articles, but I can't deny it feels good to see the 9.5′s.

Making TowerFall has been the most rewarding experience of my life. When I put love into the game, I see it returned to me tenfold by the TowerFall community, and it only appears to be growing.

I also had the privilege of working with some incredibly talented, capable, and pleasant people. I want to thank the entire team by name. Kevin Regamey and Jeff Tangsoc (sound design), Pedro Medeiros (pixel art), Amora Bettany (character design and concept art), Alec Holowka (music), and Kert Gartner (trailers).

Hands-on with TowerFall Ascension on PS4: Co-op Questing

50°
41w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements went hands-on with TowerFall Ascension on PS4 showcasing co-op questing below.

To quote: The core TowerFall experience demonstrates the richness of simplicity. With only three basic tenets of play - movement, shooting, and dodging - this multiplayer arena celebrates the thrill of pure competition.

TowerFall Ascension, coming to PS4 on March 11th, retains this fine-tuned fun while also expanding on it. A heart-pounding, co-op Quest mode has joined the fray, alongside time-based Trials that help players master the art of shooting glorious, pixelated arrows.

Quest mode, playable alone or with a partner, pits players against waves of monsters. These monsters range from scythe-wielding warriors to leaping globs of slime. Each monster poses a distinct threat to the players, but nothing compared to the threat that the two players pose to each other.

With the danger of friendly fire whizzing within every loosed arrow, part of the fun of Quest mode is keeping your partner safe. Players with an eager bowstring may find their fellow archer out of lives and unable to assist with the remainder of the wave. Smart players will divide and conquer, and stay wary of launching attacks in the direction of the other.
