PlayStation Now Beta Game Loading Times Leaked, New Improvements

50°
23w ago - Some PlayStation Now Beta game loading times have been leaked from an anonymous participant and have since been compared to the previous phase of testing with details below.

To quote from DualShockers (linked above): "Back in February a reader that wished to remain anonymous sent us a list of the loading times of all the games that were available in the first phase of the beta of PlayStation Now.

The beta has now moved on to the second phase, with a whole lot of new games available and even some returning ones. The same reader took it upon himself to clock the loading times again using the same internet connection and shared them with us.

Like last time, each timing in the list below is from the launch of the game to the splash screen. We were provided a video as evidence, but we were asked not to publish it to protect the tipster’s identity (and account).

Between parenthesis you can also see the loading times of the returning games in the first phase of the beta, for comparison’s sake.

Current PlayStation Now Beta List:

  • Shadow of the Colossus - 46.72 (old time: 53.98)
  • WipeOut HD - 57.19
  • Dead Nation - 40.05
  • PixelJunk Monsters - 39.90
  • Shatter - 38.86 (old time: 39.77)
  • Guacamelee! –...

Sony Patent Uncovered to Detect Pirated Software Tracking Load Times

650°
82w ago - Recently a Sony [Register or Login to view links] was uncovered which may be used to detect pirated software though tracking video game load times.

Below are the details, to quote: "Sony has filed a new patent which may be useful in combating piracy.

The patent was filed by them way back in August 2011, and according to it, if the load times are not within the range they have set, the software could be flagged.

For the tech to be effective, a standard average load time has to be set–specific or range–and if any software that exceeds the time set, it will be easy to block it. This way of blocking games is a little impractical because sometimes drives may not function as expected due to wear and tear.

You can check out the description of the patent below.

For example, if an authentic game title is distributed exclusively on BDs having a total benchmark load time of 45 seconds on a game console BD drive, the acceptable range of load times could be from 40 to 50 seconds. Thus, a total measured title load time of 4 seconds would be outside of the acceptable range of total load times for a legitimate media type.

Seek time: In another example, if an authentic game title is distributed exclusively on flash drives...

Bayonetta PS3 HDD Patch Arrives, Remedies Loading Times

550°
242w ago - Today Sega has released a Bayonetta PS3 HDD patch, which remedies the video game's loading times. Surprisingly, the patch was actually made by Sony and not Sega.

The new patch will enable players to install the game directly onto the PS3's hard drive, reducing the game's load times as expected.

To quote from JustPushStart.com (linked above): "By downloading the 135MB patch you will have an ability to install the game's data on the hard drive.

Make sure you have at least 4.5GB of space in the hard drive and it should take around five minutes to install.

Once completed one of the things you will notice are:

•Instead of 2-4 second load times when you picked up an item, it doesn't say LOADING anymore. It picks up the notes that you get right away.
•Screen tearing issue is slightly reduced"
