Video: Inside the Story of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor on PS4

15w ago - Monolith Productions Community Manager Andy Salisbury shared a video that goes inside the story of middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor on PS4 and PS3 with details below.

To quote: From the very beginning, all of us here at Monolith Productions knew we had to go to great lengths to make Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor on PS4 and PS3 as authentic as possible.

From the landscape, to the weapons, to the inhabitants, to the architecture - everything required extreme attention to detail, and our main story was no exception.

To make the story of Talion and the mysterious Wraith he's connected to a reality, we worked with Lead Designer and Writer Christian Cantamessa (Red Dead Redemption).

And to bring our Ranger of The Black Gate to life, we could think of none better than the esteemed Troy Baker (The Last of Us, BioShock Infinite, Batman: Arkham City). Together, we're shaping this new tale set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Check out our latest trailer above, which shows a glimpse of what it was like on set, and look closely for the first glimpse of a beloved Middle-earth character, and a few new faces.

Both Troy and Christian had a tremendous impact on...

The Talos Principle on PS4: When Story Meets Puzzle

50°
16w ago - Writer Tom Jubert outlines When Story Meets Puzzle in The Talos Principle on PS4 today with details below, to quote:

Hello. I'm Tom Jubert, one of the writers on The Talos Principle for PS4, and I'm here to tell you a bit about the game because the other guys are lazy busy with finishing it.

Announced during the PlayStation press conference at E3 in June, The Talos Principle is a first-person philosophical puzzler from Croteam, the guys behind the Serious Sam games. It's a bit atmospheric, a bit sci-fi, and a proper challenge if you're looking for one.

The guys brought myself and Jonas Kyratzes on as writers around 9 months ago to deliver on their aspirations for the atmosphere and story. In The Talos Principle, you inhabit a robot body in a digital recreation of the ancient world, and explore at the behest of an omnipresent voice in the sky.

We're keeping our cards close to our chest on this one, but you could say Philip K. Dick's oeuvre is a close match for our general motif. We hope there's loads here to dig into and piece together if you're so minded, but equally if you're just here for the puzzles it won't get in your way.

About those puzzles. The concept has its roots in experimental puzzle mechanics developed for Serious Sam 4, and shares with that game...

Valiant Hearts: A More Personal War Story Coming to PS4 and PS3

50°
22w ago - Sony Content Manager Ed Casey made available a video showcasing Valiant Hearts stating it's a more personal war story which is coming to PS4 and PS3 consoles.

To quote: Valiant Hearts: The Great War is not the type of war story we're used to seeing in games.

Instead of focusing on soldiers, Valiant Hearts spotlights the lives of ordinary people thrust into an impossible, unbearable situation, and tells a personal and touching story set against the chaotic backdrop of World War I.

In this Developer Diary the Valiant Hearts team discusses the origins of the game and the research involved in creating the characters and atmosphere.

Combining real stories and World War I history with imagination and a unique art style they tell a story of love, loss, and adventure unlike any other.

You'll get to experience this story for yourself very soon, as the game will debut on PS4 and PS3 on June 24.

Sony on The Story Behind InFamous Second Son's Photo Mode

26w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton is here with the story behind InFamous Second Son's photo mode today!

To quote: If you've been keeping even half an eye on gaming-related forums, blogs and social feeds over the last week or two you will surely have seen the stunning fruits of inFAMOUS Second Son's brilliant Photo Mode, which developer Sucker Punch added to the game via an update earlier this month.

It's fair to say the new feature has surpassed everyone's expectations and taken off in a big, big way - there are some absolutely incredible images out there, all created by you, the gamers.

So, to find out a little more about how it came to be and what the studio is making of its reception, we caught up with the man behind Photo Mode, Sucker Punch Senior Software Engineer Matt Durasoff.

How exactly did Photo Mode come to be? Was it something you planned early on, or was it more spur-of-the-moment?

Matt Durasoff: There's nothing novel about setting up shiny screen shots (say that ten times fast), but it was always something we did internally. For Second Son, the motivation for adding this feature came completely from the fans.

Right out of the gate, people were sharing awesome shots, without any special tools. Giving people a way to hide...
