While we've seen EA's upcoming Simpsons game quite a bit recently, the game continues to pleasantly surprise us. The tongue in cheek adventure finds the animated family braving the perilous world of videogames in a platformer starring the whole clan. We had the chance to check out some new levels in the Xbox 360 and PS3 game at EA's press event today that showed off the game's smart wit and fun gameplay.
The version of the game on display at the event featured a broad sampling of levels that included many we've seen before and two new levels. The first new level, The Land of Chocolate, serves as the game's tutorial and, for those unfamiliar with the classic fantasy sequence, is set in a candy fueled dream had by Homer. The level opens with a cinematic that's right out of the cartoon and then segues to gameplay. Your goal in the level is to follow a white chocolate rabbit through a chocolate village and to the top of a cake. Along the way you're filled in on the basics of ... More »
Fans of Square Enix's Final Fantasy series have been pining for a remake of the classic Final Fantasy VII since before the game's E3 2005 tech demo. And so far, Square brass has been fairly quiet on the idea of it becoming a reality.
Though, as Famitsu points out (via PlayStation Universe), they are very aware of consumer interest. Crisis Core producer Hideki Imaizumi said in an interview to the Japanese magazine that though fans clearly want it, it's a question of timing. The three most likely to work on such a project -- Kitase, Nomura and Tabata -- are too busy with Final Fantasy XIII.
Imaizumi did make clear there's no current plans for a remake, but pointed out some decisions are made quickly. He added that a new game is to be shown at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, taking place from September 20-23.
No doubt this new game is another part of Square Enix's masterful plan to keep developers too busy to re-render Cloud's ridiculous sword.

A fighter jet-inspired exclusive special edition for 2008. "Uncompromising... a true automotive superlative."
That's how Stephan Winkelman, president and CEO of Lamborghini describes his company's latest product. And it needs to be: With a price of nearly $1.4 million U.S. — plus tax — it's more than four times the price of the "ordinary" Murcielago that it's based on.
It will be exclusive, too — just 20 of these exceptional cars will be produced, and all will be sold during 2008.
Everything about this car is more extreme than the Murcielago and every carbon fiber panel is new. Sharper edges; large, angled, forward-facing air intakes; deeply faired-in rear light clusters; a hood with open ventilation slots; asymmetrical body side air vents...seen side by side with the super-aggressive Reventón, the Murcielago looks almost tame.
Reventón will be offered in only one, exclusive color: an opaque green-grey, also called Reventón... More »
Update: The financial terms of Intel's buyout of Havok were not initially disclosed. However, Reuters reports that Irish venture capital firm TVC Holdings estimated the deal's value at around $110 million. On Monday, TVC agreed to sell its 27 percent stake in Havok for about $21 million.
Over the weekend, Silicon Valley giant Intel announced its latest acquisition. The deal, however, wasn't for a new chip-making unit or the rumored purchase of graphics-card maker card Nvidia. Instead, Intel bought Havok, the Irish developer of the widely used physics engine of the same name.
"Havok is a proven leader in physics technology for gaming and digital content, and will become a key element of Intel's visual computing and graphics efforts," said Renee James, an Intel vice president and general manager of its Software and Solutions Group, in a statement. James said that the tech giant would allow the middleware maker to conduct "business as usual" via a... More »
USB 3.0 improves upon its successors by adding fiber-optic cable inside alongside the copper wiring, greatly increasing the speeds. The upgrade should allow for high-def devices, such as HD DVD or Blu-ray players, to use the standard to send data.
As of now, today's USB cables aren't fast enough for such heavy transfers, sending data at 480 megabits per second. USB 3.0, on the other hand, will increase that tenfold to a whopping 4.8 gigabits per second. The fancy new cables should start hitting shelves and being used in devices around 2009 or 2010.
The Becknell family from Loveland, CO became extremely concerned when their 3 year old Labrador Retriever started spiting up blood. The X-rays from there emergency visit to the vet showed a mass in the dogs stomach. After reviewing the X-rays with family they agreed it was probably an old remote that they had been letting the dog use as a chew toy.
The Vet gave the dog one teaspoon of Syrup of Ipecac and shortly there after the Lab started vomiting up the contents of his stomach. As expected up came the remote but it was just chunks of the remote. The dog had chewed the remote into little pieces and that wasn’t the mass in the X-ray.
"The Vet started massaging the dogs belly and it just came flying out of the dog," said Marie Becknell. I knew what it was right away by the color and shape of it. It was my son’s video game remote. The dog had swallowed the boy’s Nintendo Wii remote controller.
"The dog spent the night at the Vet and boy's pun... More »
A new report confirms earlier rumors that Sony will announce a $399 40GB PS3 as early as this week. According to Sky News, a manufacturing source has revealed that Taiwanese FoxConn (which also produces PS2s) will make the rumored $399 PS3. An announcement could come sometime this week in an effort to "spoil" the high profile launch of Halo 3 for Xbox 360 says Sky.
Previous reports speculated that Sony would drop the price of the 80GB PS3 to match the current price ($499) of the now discontinued 60GB PS3. In order to offer a $399 PS3, Sky News reports that Sony will either remove the console's USB ports or backwards compatibility.
Sony denied comment on the report when contacted by GamePro.
