Video: The Forest: Open-World Survival Horror Hitting PlayStation 4

50°
7w ago - Endnight Games Co-Founder Anna Terekhova announced today that open-world survival horror game The Forest is hitting PlayStation 4 with a PS4 video trailer below!

To quote: Think back to your childhood days: playing outside, building a fort, skipping a stone on a lake... now add cannibals who want to tear you apart.

This is 'The Forest' and it's on its way to PS4.

There are no missions, no NPC's telling you what to do and no text in the middle of the screen telling you to 'Follow.' You know those parts in games where some character is yelling at you, telling you what to do and to do it faster? Those moments' drive us crazy.

When we're in a game world we want to choose what we do and how we do it. This has been the driving force behind all the decisions we make. What would give players the most freedom and options. We think the best stories in games are the ones that occur on their own, the ones you experience naturally in the world.

Something we've learned over the past 6 months is that people love to share their gameplay experiences, as well as watch other people's playthroughs. Using the PS4 Share feature makes this even easier for players.

People can show off the bases...

P.T. on PlayStation 4: Survival Tips for Konami's PS4 Horror Hit

400°
12w ago - Konami Community Manager Su-Yina Farmer shared some PlayStation 4 survival tips today for Konami's PS4 horror hit P.T. below.

To quote: Forget the pumpkin spice lattes, Halloween is all about scaring the bejesus out of yourself and those around you.

So what better way to celebrate than turning the lights off, grabbing a headset or turning up your surround system (essential for the full immersive experience) and starting up P.T. - it's free to download on PS Store!

Sure, you can watch the countless videos populating the Internet of horrified gamers, but there's nothing more satisfying than completing the game yourself and obtaining that 'I Played P.T. to the End and Survived' kudos. It's an experience you won't forget.

If you're too terrified to try P.T. out, or have dipped your toe into the game but need a bit of guidance, let me hold your hand and give you a few hints and tips!

Firstly, you'll notice that P.T. plays in a loop: you'll visit the same corridor, but each time something will be different.

You should take the time to inspect and interact with everything: pictures on the walls, items on the floor. Listen closely and pay attention, the devil is in the details after all. Did a door just open? And don't forget to look up...

SOMA Update, New Trailer: Crafting Survival Horror on PS4

50°
47w ago - Frictional Games Creative Director Thomas Grip is here with a SOMA update including a new trailer spotlighting the crafting of survival horror on PS4 below.

To quote: Time for a little update on how SOMA is doing. (A brief summary for those who don't already know: SOMA is a sci-fi horror game from the creators of [Register or Login to view links] that will tackle unsettling questions about consciousness. It will be released on PS4 in 2015.)

Before I get started, I should say a few words about the new teaser trailer, "Theta". This video showcases a few in-game scenes along with fresh voice work. Our hope is to give you a taste of the feel and atmosphere that SOMA will have. It also contains a few clues on what the game's story will be about.

SOMA's current status

We are currently about a week away from the alpha of the game. This is a build in which a bit more than half of the full game is playable. It's currently clocking in at around 5 hours, meaning the final game will end up at 8 hours or so.

A game like SOMA is a bit different to have in alpha than most other games. Normally, a game relies on a core mechanic that creates the basic engagement....

Red Barrels Announces Outlast is Out Today: Survival Horror on PS4

400°
51w ago - Red Barrels Co-Founder Philippe Morin announced that Outlast PS4 is officially out today bringing survival horror to PlayStation 4.

To quote: Hello gamers! I'm Philippe Morin, one of the co-founders of [Register or Login to view links].

Our first game, Outlast, is coming to PS4 today, and I'm excited to share that those of you who are PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to download it completely for free.

Outlast itself is a survival-horror game created by a team of 11 people with one common goal: to scare the *bleep* out of you.

Here's the story so far... In the remote mountains of Colorado, horrors wait inside Mount Massive Asylum. A long-abandoned home for the mentally ill, the facility was recently re-opened by the "research and charity" branch of the transnational Murkoff Corporation.

Taking advantage of the Asylum's history and remote location, they've been operating in strict secrecy. That is, they were until the reporter arrived.

Acting on a tip from an anonymous source, independent journalist Miles Upshur has broken into the facility, and what he is about to discover inside will walk a terrifying line between science and religion, nature and something entirely other. Trapped with nightmares old and new, his only...

Video: Introducing Kodoku, New Survival Horror for PS4 and PS Vita

50°
51w ago - Carnivore Studio Founder Romain Toutain introduced a new survival horror videogame for PS4 and PS Vita platforms today alongside a video trailer below.

To quote: Hello! I'm Romain, founder of Carnivore Studio, an independent studio based in London.

You may have seen screenshots of Kodoku, the horror game we are currently working on for PS4 and PS Vita. If not, take a look at the images in this post.

For the uninitiated, here is a quick recap. The game is a horror and exploration game, set on a Japanese island. Instead of shooting guns at zombies, you will have to use strategy and stealth to survive all the Lovecraftian creatures - inspired by Japanese folklore - that live on the island.

You will also be able to use magic talismans you will learn to craft on the island, in order to find your best way to face enemies.

This game means a lot to us. We wanted an original art direction, a very specific mood and general feeling - decisions which, we think, will lead to a unique horror experience.

We grew up with horror games (most of us are huge fans of Siren series) and were fascinated by what we could do with all those legends and stories, so started building the game we wanted...
