Sony Unveils God Mode, Storms PlayStation Network on April 23, 2013

76w ago - Old School Games Producer Nick Madonna announced via Sony's blog today that God Mode storms PlayStation Network on April 23, 2013.

To quote: [Register or Login to view links] is a new game studio launched by [Register or Login to view links] whose focus is to deliver low-cost, high-quality downloadable titles.

Using Saber's technology and development platform, we strive to create digital games that look like retail products. With our first release, [Register or Login to view links], we wanted to create a lighthearted throwback experience, which focuses on arcade-style action over story. We came up with a classic premise - fighting to get out of Hell - then wrapped it in a third-person shooter with 3D graphics on par with full-price titles.

Finally, we added a slew weapons: plasma launchers, rail guns and what we affectionately call the "buzzsaw," in order to wipe out waves and waves of demonic hordes.

We decided that God Mode should be less about deep narrative and more about action. This approach gave us the ability to really go crazy and build a unique world full of plenty of characters to shoot, blow up, impale and maim.

Rare PSOne Classic Vanguard Bandits Storms PSN Tomorrow

150w ago - MonkeyPaw Games Marketing Manager Ray Almeda has announced today that a rare PSOne Classic, namely Vanguard Bandits, will be storming PlayStation Network tomorrow.

To quote: When talk turns to classic strategy RPGs, most players immediately think of Tactics Ogre, Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics. These games could hold one's interest for hours upon hours.

Battles would be so intense and challenging that players needed to constantly find ways - no matter how small - to eke out an advantage that could be the difference between sweet victory or shameful defeat. Tomorrow, [Register or Login to view links] will revive the now-rare Vanguard Bandits on PSN and with it, resurrect the glory days of classic strategy RPGs.

Originally published as Epica Stella by Human Entertainment in Japan, Vanguard Bandits was released by legendary publisher Working Designs in North America. The PSone game was loaded with content: 60 different missions, three branching storylines, crazy plot twists and dialogue on the Ruin Branch, five endings and path-crossing narratives. Vanguard Bandits kept gamers glued to their screens for marathon gameplay sessions.

The game is played from an isometric camera view similar to most games within the SRPG genre. But the 3D battle animations...
