3w ago - Techland Lead Technical Artist Maciej Jamrozik shared a video today on how light comes alive in Dying Light on PS4 / PlayStation 4 below.
To quote: Hi, I'm Maciej Jamrozik, the Lead Technical Artist at Techland, developer of the upcoming first-person, action survival-horror game Dying Light.
Light and shadow play a crucial role in Dying Light. They affect not only the gameplay and its day-and-night cycle, but also the visuals.
This video illustrates how the game uses a physically-based lighting system, which means that light is generated in accordance to the actual laws of physics.
This in turn assures that lighting looks convincing and cohesive, regardless of the conditions and surroundings. It's especially important as Dying Light features a variety of locations and environments, from open spaces to claustrophobic rooms, as well as a range of weather conditions and changing time of day.
One of the most important parameters of indirect lighting is "roughness," which defines the level of smoothness and dullness of a surface.
Implementing our new physics model eliminated the limitation of using only preset groups of materials, which translates to much more varied and faithful representations of materials in the game. Our artists now have full freedom...
11w ago - Tecmo Koei Europe Community Manager Chin Soon Sun announced alongside a video trailer that Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters launches today and fans can try it for free!
To quote: Fighters! It's been a while! Today I would like to talk about Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters which will be available FREE on PlayStation Store from this Wednesday, 25th September.
So, what is Dead or Alive?
For the uninitiated, Dead or Alive is a 3D fighting game series that first hit arcades in 1996. After first gaining attention for its intuitive fighting system, the series has since gone on to sell around the world.
The series was brought back for the first time in series years with the release of Dead or Alive 5 in September last year, boasting updated graphics and fighting mechanics.
What's new in Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate?
In Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, developer Team NINJA has added an abundance of new online features, stages, game modes and the addition of both new and fan-favourites to our already extensive cast of fighters to deliver the 'ultimate' in fighting entertainment with features enjoyable from casual to competitive fighters.
We have added several fan-favorite characters to the biggest roster in franchise...
19w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements went hands-on today with Lost Planet 3 for PlayStation 3 with details below, as follows:
Jim Peyton's wife, Grace, keeps him warm in the ferocious cold of E.D.N. III with her easy smile and knowing looks. Even though she's off-world, her video messages are enough for Jim, the star of Lost Planet 3. He's here to do a job, earn some credits, and get back to his family.
It's easy to see the wild west influences of Capcom's co-developer, Spark Unlimited, in Lost Planet 3, which launches on August 27th in North America.
The developers at Spark return the series to a more primal, personal experience, more in line with the cult hit original that eschews Lost Planet 2's tropical detour and large-scale cooperative design.
The core of Lost Planet 3 is Jim. He's a no-nonsense guy - well written, acted, and instantly likeable. He's thrust into his role on E.D.N. III as a rig pilot and construction expert, but he's soon slinging guns and sipping on hot soup to bat off the native critters and cold, respectively. He carries a pistol he's not afraid to use, and he's willing to tackle the hard jobs at a moment's notice... assuming there's hazard pay involved.
38w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Justin Massongill shared a Q&A from Team Ninja for Dead or Alive 5 Plus which arrives on PlayStation Vita today.
To quote: Dead or Alive, Team Ninja's long-running fighting game franchise, is getting its first PS Vita installment today in the form of Dead or Alive 5 Plus. How does one pack a game of this magnitude into a portable form factor?
Do any concessions need to be made to keep everything steady at 60FPS? What new features can we expect, given PS Vita's unique capabilities? We synced up with Yohei Shimbori of Team Ninja, who graciously answered these questions and more.
PlayStation.Blog: What has been your experience in terms of developing Dead or Alive 5 Plus for PS Vita? Have you had to make many concessions, or were you able to port the entire PS3 game over with minimal changes?
Yohei Shimbori, Director, Team Ninja: Certain elements of Dead or Alive 5 Plus (DOA5+) were relatively smooth in porting it to the PS Vita from the PS3. However, as you may notice from games already on the market today, a complete port in terms of graphics and physics remains a challenge which was also the case for DOA5+.
Fluid fighting motion and stellar graphics are all staples of the Dead or Alive franchise, so delivering anything...
Now you can enjoy the same powerful new moves and acclaimed in-depth fighting system with over 20 playable characters and blockbuster stages from the PlayStation 3 version. Today I would like to tell you about a few of the new features we've included in the PS Vita version.
Dead or Alive 5+ will have cross-platform compatibility with PS3, which means you fight not only against other players on PlayStation Vita, but also against players on PS3. All characters available on PS3 can be used on PS Vita as well.
Battles run at 60fps for both systems, so there's no lag or stress even when playing cross-platform. This will allow players to enjoy serious battles across the two platforms!
Many have questioned us about the DLC content. Yes, the DLC content can be shared between PS3 and PS Vita, so players can play with their desired costumes wherever and whenever they want. We will have delivered over 100 costumes as DLC by the end...
