123w ago - Korean company LG wants Sony's PlayStation 3 and Bravia televisions banned in the US for what it claims are patent infringements relating to Blu-ray playback.
To quote from EuroGamer: "The Foss Patents blog contacted Eurogamer to reveal documents filed with the US International Trade Commission in Washington relating to the complaint. mThe ITC has the power to block imports of products that violate US patents.
LG claims Sony is infringing four of its patents in a complaint that broadly relates to "certain electronic devices having a Blu-Ray Disc player and components thereof", but the PlayStation 3 (Model No. CECH-2501A) is the only Sony product to be specifically named in the main document of the complaint.
A Bloomberg reports suggests LG's claims are revenge for cases brought against it by Sony in December. Sony claims the Seoul-based company is infringing seven of its patents relating to LG phones. Sony has also filed a civil lawsuit against LG Blu-ray players.
140w ago - A few months back it was first reported that a Sony ban wave was imminent, and today DJLO over at PSX-Scene reiterated the fact that it's only a matter of time until Sony begins banning PS3 JailBroken consoles.
To quote: Folks, Sniffynose pointed me to this. Since we are all updating now, you ALL need to read this and pay attention
On boot the system contacts the server and uploads the play list etc. this list alone is enought to get anyone that goes online banned as it shows the bootmanger etc. has been running. Here is the list and what they do, I port sniffed this a while ago before I went online with a retail unit >.> because I am not stupid hehe.
All these need to be blocked, web access will still work, updates will still work, but psn and any system messages/ads/communication will be blocked completely. For other areas someone would have to sniff the addresses again to compare. North American Servers are listed.

145w ago - Update: Many users including namdlo and nannou have pointed out the picture is dated, and have determined this scare to be more of a wake-up call than a true Sony PS3 ban wave over the PS JailBreak PS3 modchip.
As expected, with the release of the PSGroove open-source PS JailBreak PS3 exploit Sony is fighting back and now banning PS3 consoles, with the PSN ban wave error code being 8002A227.
Forum user StandardBus of Italian site ModdingStudio.com (linked above) first reported this, and based on the PSJB Backup Manager ID apparently Sony is banning the OpenPSID or PS3 MAC address... meaning another PSN account won't do you any good.
Needless to say, PlayStation 3 consoles will soon be shipping with an updated PS3 Firmware revision to patch the exploit.
Below is the rough translation from StandardBus on the PS JailBreak PS3 console bans:
"Predictably, in the end it happened. Maybe some of you were already aware of...
