150w ago - Update: Telegraph has now confirmed that Sony's Next Generation Portable (NGP) console will utilize NVG cards to provide an extra layer of security, to quote:
"NGP games will come on an 'NVG card', a flash based memory system that will also be able to store downloadable content. When pressed, Hirai said the NVG card was developed to 'add an extra layer of security' in order to deter piracy, a hot topic after recent PlayStation 3 hacks."
Today Sony President and CEO Jack Tretton has unveiled the Next Generation Portable (NGP) handheld PSP2 console followed by details and NGP pictures from Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein below!
To quote: PlayStation fans across North America will be waking up to some exciting news tomorrow.
At PlayStation Meeting 2011 in Japan a few moments ago, Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, SCEI, introduced the world to the newest addition to the PlayStation product family and the future of portable gaming: currently codenamed NGP (Next Generation Portable).
153w ago - Previously some video footage surfaced on the Sony's upcoming PSP phone, and today Engadget.com (linked above) posted some leaked pictures of the new device showing off Xperia and PlayStation logos.
To quote: "We've heard of the mysterious, still-totally-unofficial PlayStation Phone running Android 2.2 in the past, but we'd also heard it could run 3.0 - thing is, that was back before we knew Gingerbread would be 2.3, so it's possible that those 3.0 rumors ended up materializing as 2.3. Capiche?
Anyhow, this is the first time we're seeing the Xperia Play (or Zeus Z1, or whatever it'll end up being called) running 2.3 in the wild, doing its thing next to a white Xperia X10 to give you an idea of scale.
Also notable: these appear to be new hardware builds that feature refined touch surfaces - notice the engraved circles - along with PlayStation-themed and Xperia logos at the bottom (notice the telltale square, triangle, X, and circle shapes).
The screen shots call out a model number of R800i, which has previously been associated with the Zeus......
234w ago - Apparently, a picture (below) of what appears to be a movie poster advertising the new Metal Gear Solid movie has just sneaked onto the Internet today.
To quote: The poster, which is believed to have been taken at Sony Pictures in Culver City, CA, shows Christian Bale (most likely Solid Snake) and Daniel Craig (most likely Liquid Snake) along with a scheduled release for July 2011 and Hideo Kojima's name at the top.
This would undoubtedly be awesome news if we could confirm it as being 100% legit, but until then it'll remain a rumor as there are plenty of individuals out there with decent Photoshop skills.
239w ago - According to ComputerAndVideoGames (linked above), Sony knows nothing about the rumored pics of a new slim PS3 that are said to have leaked from a production line in a Chinese factory.
To quote: The shots show the matt black outer shell of a skinnier version of the console, complete with a slots for the Blu-ray disc drive, USB ports, and PS3 branding on the top and bottom (but not in the same Spider-Man-style font).
There's even a shot of the box, with all the PSN logos and a label indicating a 120GB internal hard drive.
Quite specifically Sony told us: "We don't know anything about the system in the photos."
