The world's most popular games console is being upgraded. Japanese games giant Nintendo is developing a high-definition model of its Wii console, which has sold more than 30 million units globally.
Though no official announcement has yet been made despite numerous rumors, games developers in Japan have been given top secret briefings on the next-generation console, thought to be named Wii HD.
The new console will support high-definition graphics, bringing it in line with Sony's PS3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 and will likely debut in late 2011.
The Wii HD is also rumored to feature a high-capacity hard drive for the storage and streaming of digital content such as music and video. Meanwhile, Nintendo has unveiled its new hand-held games machine, the DSi.
A successor to the company's hit Nintendo DS portable games unit (pictured left), the ne... More »
The video presentation was already posted HERE, and to follow-up with some more details:
Following up on an earlier rumor of a new DS coming to market, Nintendo announced the Nintendo DSi at a news conference in Japan.
The new and revamped DS unit, which includes a 3 megapixel camera and a web browser, is set to go on sale in Japan on November 1st for 18,900 yen (about $180). No word on a US release yet, but there's a Nintendo press conference scheduled tomorrow where we're sure they'll have more details for those of us across the Pacfic.
The DSi will also be slightly smaller and have a larger screen than the current DS Lite, and will include additional photo editing software, built-in memory for saving picture and game data, and an SD card slot.
The SD card slot will allow easy transfer of photos and data from the DSi to the Wii (and ... More »
At a recent event held in Delhi, Microsoft revealed some very interesting pieces of information.
For one thing, most sites have posted conspiracies and possible shots of what appeared as the console’s slim version; Engadget received a tip as far back as May concerning the planned 45nm Valhalla combined CPU / GPU motherboard design for the 360 and how it would most likely come in a new slim case.
MS execs here confirmed that the Xbox 360 Slim exists and you can expect an official announcement on the console in December.
When the redesign will be officially available (in 2009) to consumers is uncertain but this certainly looks to be a worthy purchase to start the New Year, especially with the upcoming October releases of Fallout 3, Fable 2 and Gears of War 2 in India.

A 45 nanometer cell processor was first realized earlier this year, and Sony plans to include it in the PlayStation 3 sometime during 2009.
Well, how does this affect you? By creating a smaller chip, Sony circumvents some costs associated with creating the Cell, and a cheaper production price equates to more leeway for a potential PS3 price cut.
Additionally, by reducing the size of the chip from 65nm to 45nm, power consumption decreases by approximately 40%. When less power is consumed, less heat is generated, and a slimmer console -- like the slimline PS2 -- suddenly becomes a possibility.
We'll continue to provide the big picture on the Cell processor in the future -- no matter how small it gets.

The PlayStation 3 can be a significant contributor to your power bill, but Sony is reacting to recent criticism with a third-generation hardware version that we will be shipping this holiday season. According to media reports, the updated console will consume about 10 – 20% less power than current systems.
The transition to the new generation will mainly consist of a 65 nm shrink of the RSX GPU, which will join a 65 nm Cell processor. Combined with a new cooling architecture, which replaces copper heatpipes with smaller aluminum plates, the new PS3 is expected to consume only 100 – 120 watts, down from 135 watts today. The initial PS3 with a 90 nm Cell processor was estimated to consume up to 180 watts in normal operation.
It is unclear whether the reduction power consumption will be enough to allow Sony to drop the hardware into a slimmer case.
To us, it seems to be rather unlikely that Sony will change the form factor of the PS3 this yea... More »

Since reading the news that PSP sales have increased 85%, I started to do a lot of thinking about the Sony PSP... Here are some things everyone should be thinking about, and may just tip the scales toward you making that purchase of a new shiny PSP.
The PSP was ahead of its time, and is coming into a renaissance.
The PSP has proven to be a different beast than the DS. The DS, like the Wii, is geared mostly to casual gamers, who like the pick up and play quick type games. That is what has made the DS shine. While the PSP has recently started to shine in the wake of very deep, time intensive games more on scale with the PS2 games of the past, while dropping the push for casual games.
This all started with the recent major hits being released such as Monster Hunter 2, FF Tactics, Patapon, GOW, and Crisis Core. There was only few titles as deep and as epic as those games the first 3 years, and all of those hits have been in the last 3-6 months.
