The new Xbox 360 Dashboard OS update is coming soon and it is going to be one of the biggest changes to the Xbox 360 since the system hit the market.
It is going to include the first complete redesign of the Xbox interface called the NXE by all the cool kids. The New Xbox Experience (NXE) is going to be the best thing to hit the Xbox and it is going to completely redefine how we use it.
One of the niftiest things at Penny Arcade Expo 08 was seeing the new Xbox dashboard. Xbox Live's own Major Nelson showed it off. He made sure to stress that it is still a work in progress and that there was an army of programmers over in Redmond that were cranking out code and testing it as he gave the demo.
As a side note if you ever go to a game expo or press event and Major Nelson asks you not to film something in the presentation and you do it anyway and then go on and keep on filming after he notices you and calls you out and you don't stop it then y... More »
Sony has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that PlayTV has shipped 85,000 units to retailers in the UK.
The hardware add-on, which acts as a freeview box and personal video recorder, went on sale last weekend and retails for GBP 69.99.
Pre-orders for the peripheral were around 9,000 according to Sony. Momentum is building in the run up to Christmas, with specialist and national press giving thumbs up to the device, which strengthens the PlayStation 3's status as a multimedia hub for the living room.
Again, that's only numbers for the UK... The hardware is being rolled-out across the rest of Europe until December, but there are currently no plans to release PlayTV in the US.

If you're still having trouble tracking down Samsung's SpinPoint M6 to boost your PS3 HDD storage space, Western Digital is now shipping a PS3-compatable 500GB 2.5-Inch drive ($220), with a whopping 1TB drive expected by 2010.
To quote: WD has just announced that it has started volume shipping its 500GB 2.5-inch Scorpio Blue drive, a notebook drive with 250GB per platter and a 5,400rpm spin speed. Seagate expects to ship its half terabyte 2.5-incher before the end of the year.
Our sources say WD and Fujitsu will have 750GB 2.5-inch drives by mid-2009 and 1 terabyte units by early 2010, if not the end of 2009. WD is building quite a track record of pipping Seagate by introducing notebook drives at progressively higher capacity points first, doing t... More »

Ever since launch, the Xbox 360 core model without hard drive has largely been written off by gamers -- and rightfully so. It lacks many of the attractive advantages of its older brothers, not to mention value for what's included in the box. (Most core models can't even save games without separate purchase!)
But all that's about to change with the upcoming $80 price cut of the latest Arcade bundle (September 7, according to retailers), which includes a matte white system, wireless controller, and a 256 MB memory card for saving games and playing online.
The first thing we noticed when revisiting our review of the Xbox 360 Arcade this month was that the system runs much quieter than original Xbox 360 Pro and Elite models, even when reading game discs. This is a superb improvement, as your speakers will no longer need to compete with the likes of a small lawn mower.
But that's hardly the biggest selling point -- the real appeal of the Xbox 360 Arcad... More »

Lastly, like PSN games, each code will be associated with a PSN account -- which "allows download of the LittleBigPlanet in-game costume on 5 PS3 systems per account." Too bad you don't get five pouches to share with your friends, huh? To quote:
"Upon receiving your game, follow these instructions closely to download your new costume:
