Rumor: PS4 Getting Friend Notifications in Firmware Update 1.80, Details

250°
12w ago - Not long after the release of PS4 Firmware Update v1.70 comes rumors of what is likely to be included in PlayStation 4 System Software Update v1.80 with details below!

To quote: "Sony released the 1.7 firmware update for the PS4 today, and it was a quite big one, featuring a lot of generally requested features, but there are a few that still didn't appear: one of them is a notification when friends connect to the PSN.

According to Twitter user bjexbob (twitter.com/bjexan) friend notifications are finally going to appear with firmware update 1.8. The message was relayed by industry insider Tidux (twitter.com/Tidux), who has a very solid track record of knowing what's happening at Sony. I personally reached out to Tidux inquiring about Bjexbob's identity, and he confirmed that he indeed works in a position that gives him plenty insight on the issue (we won't disclose said position to respect his privacy).

Interestingly enough Tidux also added that Friend notifications have been working internally since update 1.6, but hasn't been implemented yet for general users.

Finally, he mentioned that some of the features that were to be implemented in the firmware "slipped...

Rumor: PS1 / PS2 Games Heading to PlayStation 4 / PS4 via Emulation

400°
25w ago - Today Eurogamer (linked above) reports on rumors of PS1 / PS2 games heading to PlayStation 4 / PS4 via emulation with details below.

To quote: Backwards compatibility is coming to PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Now is only part of the story. A well-placed source working with Sony's streaming service reveals that only PlayStation 3 titles are currently scheduled to use the "gameplay over IP" cloud service. PS1 and PS2 titles are set to follow the more conventional route of running locally under emulation on Sony's latest console - but with the possibility of HD visual enhancements.

While Sony effectively phased out hardware emulation of previous platforms during the early stages of the PS3 era, it has worked consistently on opening up the PlayStation back catalogue to publishers via software emulation and PSN downloads.

Internally, PlayStation 3's firmware contains emulators for PS1, PS2 and even the handheld PSP, while Vita is capable of running PS1 and Vita titles virtually flawlessly using the same technology. In short, there's a proven codebase that can only get better for the vastly more powerful PS4.

Our information suggests that the same internal emulator strategy is planned for PlayStation 4, and we understand that Sony is actively pursuing the ability for older titles to...

Rumor: PS Vita Slim Set for Release in Europe and North America?

50°
26w ago - IGN reports that Sony has invited press to an exclusive breakfast briefing with PlayStation next Thursday, January 30th, where it is rumored that they will unveil a PS Vita Slim (or perhaps a PS Vita TV international release) for Europe and North American regions.

The invitation (below) reads, to quote: "You are invited to an exclusive breakfast briefing with PlayStation.

Following the biggest launch in PlayStation history, join us for an introduction to the slimmest.

When: Thursday 30th January 2014 | 09:00-11:00"

The PS Vita Slim is already available in Japan, and is 20 percent thinner than the existing model, as well as being 15 percent lighter.

It does away with the OLED screen for a 5-inch LCD display, which helps the battery to supposedly last up to an hour longer. The Japanese one is available in six different colors too, though we've yet to see if that's replicated in the west.

Of course the announcement could be about something else entirely, but the Vita Slim seems to be the sensible option, especially given the new appeal the handheld has thanks to the PS4's remote play functionality.

Having only just launched the PS4, it's exceedingly unlikely that Sony would announced a slim version of the console right now as they traditionally...

Rumor: PS Vita Games Activated Using ReActPSN via PlayStation 3

1300°
38w ago - Following up on the previous update, today dantezteam Tweeted a picture of what appears to be a way to activate full and demo PS Vita games using ReActPSN on a PS3 console running Custom Firmware.

Once activated using a PS3 on CFW and ReactPSN, the PlayStation Vita games are then transferred to Sony's PS Vita handheld console.

Currently there are no clear instructions or guide beyond the team stating "pkg-ps3-react-psvita-play" unfortunately so this is being considered a rumor until additional details surface.

Update: Digging into this it was an oversight in how the Brazilian PSN store worked. There was bug in that allow basically someone with PSN+ to keep their games without needing to be PSN+ member anymore.

Sadly, it been fixed, the outcry over it on twitter was that a lot of scene people knew and keep it secret not even informing those in Brazil regarding the bug or mistake by Sony's PSN store management.

Rumor: PS4 (Orbis) Details Revealed by German PSM3 Magazine

1150°
88w ago - A few weeks ago we reported that on the rumor that PlayStation 4 developer kits were shipping and based on the AMD A10, and now PSM3's German edition (via [Register or Login to view links]) has shared some new PS4 (Orbis) rumor details below.

To quote from Gameranx.com (linked above): "First off, the magazine states that the PS4 won't even be named the PS4. While it will still have the "PlayStation" name attached to it, there won't be a number 4 next to it.

The reason is that the number 4 is pronounced "Shi" in Japan and in Chinese. "Shi" also has the same sound as "death" so that makes it a very unlucky number for a lot of people in the world. It's so reviled that "many hospitals in Japan have therefore no room with the number 4 or even a fourth floor - similar to a few high-rise buildings in the West no 13th Floor have."

The PS4's codename, which is now known as Orbis, could even be part of the final name. For the rest of the details, read on below (via NeoGAF).

Second Games of the first generation will look like the high-end PC demos on watchdogs and Star Wars 1313 or Square...
