158w ago - Today PS3 hacker RichDevX has tweeted news of a Sony BDP Firmware Decrypter v0.01 release for the PlayStation 3 followed by a BDPCrypt GUI courtesy of turusele.

Project: RichDevX PSGroove Payload for PS3 Service Mode

186w ago - Today French site PS3Gen.fr (linked above) reports news of a project RichDevX is working on where a PSGroove payload is utilized for examining PS3 Service Mode.

To quote, roughly translated: "RichDevX tells us about his progress with his playload to put the PlayStation 3 in service mode and recently released two snapshots of progress.

It is indeed working on a payload to get the console into service mode and be able to launch a file. Choke on every boot via a USB key and others.

As shown in this first image, we can see the red box on the XMB showing that the console actually went into service mode. In this mode, it is possible to run specific software, including one allowing the downgrade (the opposite of update, ie back to a previous firmware).

OtherOS who says so says downgrade option of going back 3.15 for benefit of OtherOS plus most of the hack with PSGroove.
