PS3 Preloader Advance by JaicraB, Restore Dev_Flash via LV2Diag

1500°
142w ago - This holiday weekend Spanish PlayStation 3 developer JaicraB has released PS3 Preloader Advance, a rewritten LV2Diag.self that allows restoring the Dev_Flash.bin file (to fix semi-bricked PS3 consoles) and has been tested on JFW DH CFW although it should work on all Custom Firmware he states.

Download: [Register or Login to view links] / [Register or Login to view links]

To quote, roughly translated: Already available the tool to reset any "/ dev_flash". It is but a program that runs without external modules.

Why we find it being unable to load basic libraries housed in the "/ dev_flash" we must use direct syscalls to the kernel. The compilation is clean STUB external modules, hence it only takes a few KB ...

The function is to load the file "/ dev_usb000/flash1.bin" and write in RAW mode to the "/ dev_flash". But not before mounting the "/ dev_flash" Write mode.

It's simple but effective. There are dangers of bricks, but backup mistake or left unfinished for various reasons.

In principle works in all FIRMS, but mainly is designed to JFW-DH356MA by semibricks problems and instead of HDD when the system stored inside the "/ dev_flash".

But you have...

Above 1500°
152w ago - Following up on the recent Guide to Compile PSN NPDRM Games for PS3 Custom Firmware, today Gitbrew has released NoPDRM v1, which allows users to easily re-enable Sony PlayStation Network (PSN) content on their PlayStation 3 consoles alongside some RSX progress detailed below.

Download: [Register or Login to view links]

To quote: With the release of mallory's NPDRM-enabled ps3tools, it was remarkably simple to re-enable your legally purchased PSN titles.

Overview of steps: unself2 -> make_self_npdrm -> pkg.py

Tools you need:

  • ps3tools modified for NPDRM use (included)
  • make_self_npdrm from geohot's tools (included in psl1ght)
  • pkg.py (included in psl1ght)

To use the NPDRM ps3tools you need:

  • Your console's IDPS
  • Your console's exdata folder (/dev_hdd0/home/xxxxxxxx/exdata/)
  • Your PSN titles (/dev_hdd0/game/NP*)

The get_idps.pkg file can be installed on your PS3. When run, it creates a file called 'idps' on the root of an attached USB drive. Copy this idps file to your PS3KEYS folder. Make sure that your PS3KEYS...

Project PS3 Blu-ray WIP Seeks to Restore Drives Post-Downgrade

550°
195w ago - Previously we reported that PS3 downgrading hinders Blu-ray movie playback along with some work-arounds while markjtarr began a Poll on working/non-working drives post-downgrade, and today Project Blu-ray seeks to restore functionality using feedback from PlayStation 3 downgraders.

Download: Project PS3 Blu-ray DRL Backup v0.01

To quote from PSGroove (linked above): "They are asking anyone with a PS3 to run an app they have developed, which will dump certain files related to Blu-Ray playback.

It does not matter if the Blu-ray problem is affecting your console or not, your files are still needed for analysis. Once analyzed, this should lead to a permanent Blu-ray playback fix!"

From the included ReadMe file: One of the most exciting recent developments is the ability to downgrade PS3s to previous firmwares. Unfortunately this has proven to have an unexpected side-effect for certain older ("phat") PS3s:

After downgrading, systems with 256MB of flash RAM (NAND) lose the...
