11w ago - Following up on his previous release and plugin, today PlayStation 3 developer exofreak made available an XML modification to permanently remove the annoying Singstar Icon from PS3 UK consoles complete with a video demo below.
126w ago - Update: Sony has now confirmed the news via ArsTechnica stating, to quote: "The new CECH-3000 series PS3 requires HDMI only for BD movie output in HD, in compliance with AACS standards, PS3 continues to support component output for HD gaming and streaming content."
Today Kotaku (linked above) reports news of a rumor that Sony may be removing HD downscale for the component output on new 'K' PS3 Slim models making an HDMI cable mandatory for them.
To quote: "A tipster sends us rumored word (and image) of an incoming replacement model for the 160GB PlayStation 3 which brings with it a change in the way some people will hook the console up to their HD television.

199w ago - Update: Sony's Geoff Levand has now confirmed, to quote: "SCE is committed to continue the support for previously sold models that have the 'Install Other OS' feature and that this feature will not be disabled in future firmware releases."
According to Owen Stampflee, a Linux Product Manager at Fixstars Corporation, Sony will remove OtherOS in the next PS3 Firmware update due to the recent GeoHot PS3 Hack.
Although this comes as no surprise to PlayStation 3 Slim owners, where OtherOS is already removed, it would contradict Sony's previous statement to standard PS3 owners.
To quote: "Everyone,
I've caught a rumor from a reputable source that the next firmware update for old PS3s will remove the OtherOS feature...
I'm not sure if it's true or not but it's in the best interest of the YDL community to spread the word.
