Sony Confirms God of War Collection for PS3 is Region-Free

500°
256w ago - Sony has just confirmed to VG247 (linked above) that the PlayStation 3 God of War Collection, featuring God of War I & II, will indeed be region-free.

To quote: "Folks were wondering if it would be region locked since the European version will not be released until after the start of 2010.

Luckily, like most PS3 games, it is importable.

Good thing. We were worried folks would start showing up at Sony Santa Monica wielding their Blades of Chaos in protest.

Thank Kratos that won't be the case this holiday season."

Gears of War 2 and Tom Clancy's EndWar are Region-Free

299w ago - The Videogamesplus Team has tested Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 2: Limited Edition and confirmed that they are both region free.

However, the bonus disc that comes with the Limited Edition isn't region-free for those wondering.

Also, it turns out that Tom Clancy's EndWar is also region-free!

Finally, it has been confirmed that Rock Band Track Pack Vol 3: AC/DC LIVE - 360 (Preorder) is NOT region free.

Confirmed: LittleBigPlanet IS region-free, worldwide content for all!

200°
309w ago - SCE has revealed that the producer of LittleBigPlanet wrongly told journalists that LittleBigPlanet will be region-locked, as previously reported.

Sam_Protagonist (SCE Development) just posted up "This is in fact not the case, and all shared levels in the game will be available worldwide."

To quote: Hi all, as many of you may have heard already in an interview at Leipzig the senior producer for LittleBigPlanet announced that the game is region locked.

This is in fact not the case, and all shared levels in the game will be available worldwide. The confusion arose out of regional differences in how moderation will work as there are different legal rules each region have to play by, and at one point this looked like it may require the game to be independent in each region - however this has been worked around and there will only be one region for the game.... a LittleBigRegion.

Apologies for any confusion over this issue, however I'm pretty sure you're happy with the result.

Future UMD movies are region free?

50°
340w ago - Have to commend Sony for openly embracing import gamers. The PSP and the PlayStation 3 are region free for games, but not for movies.

The latter is understandable considering movie studios are stuck with draconian product control that has a thankfully easy work around in the form of a region free DVD player. UMDs are a different story because they are region encoded and there isn't a simple fix if you are using official PSP firmware.

However, the new MTV releases indicate a change of pace. All of them have an "all" region label instead of a number indicating the region next to them. Perhaps, this is only for MTV UMDs or this is some kind of packing oversight.

I hope neither of these are the case and Sony plans to make the video format completely region free, especially if anime studios start selling entire series as cheap as the UMD Aeon Flux collection.
