The PlayStation 3’s Platinum Games line-up just keeps getting better. After the likes of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man, you can now race around Paradise City for less with Burnout Paradise joining the ranks.
When PS3 Platinum Games were first announced last month, Burnout Paradise strangely made it on to advertising posters, banners etc, but it never really showed up in stores. But it’s here now and should be in stores across India by the end of September at a discounted price of Rs 1,499.
Interestingly, Burnout Paradise is still not a Platinum title in the UK, which is strange because in such cases, India usually mirrors SCEE practices. Not that we’re complaining; we now have two decent racing games on the PS3’s Platinum line-up (and no, the other one is not NFS ProStreet).
Gamers and journalists alike have complained about the slow download speeds on PSN. "I would say PSN is generally slower than other services, especially wireless," says Chris Morell, senior editor and PlayStation liaison at GamePro.
However, Sony's director of communications Patrick Seybold has responded by saying that he hasn't noticed this at all, and "I have both [a 360 and Wii] at home and downloads are comparable if not slightly quicker for PS3. Of course, that's just my experience."
To quote: Two weeks ago, it took a frustrating six hours to download WarGames from the PlayStation Store, all while my PC, Powerbook, 360, and Wii enjoyed fast, uninterrupted wireless transfers. This was slower than normal, but I typically suffer less-than-desirable wait times for PS3 demos and system updates as well. (I get 15 mbps down in my area courtesy of Comcast, by the way.)
"I would say PSN is generally slower than other services, especial... More »
Update: The Blu-ray will still be released in other European countries, but not the United Kingdom. Additionally, Insomniac Games’ Community Manager James Stevenson has provided a reason at games forum NeoGAF.
“It’s partially due to broadband penetration being strong in the UK, therefore it wasn’t seen as needed”. He also mentions that Ireland will receive Blu-ray copies at retail, if you’re really craving for a hard copy.
A Sony Europe representative confirmed to BritishGaming.co.uk that Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty will no longer be heading to United Kingdom retail stores on a Blu-Ray disc.
The 3-4 hour epilogue was released on the Playstation Store on August 21st, but was initially announced for a full retail release on September 12th.
After noticing that no British stores had the game for pre-order, we contacted Sony and ... More »
Since its launch, the PS3's momentum has been sluggish at best, with the exception of the large spike generated in June due to the release of Metal Gear Solid 4.
The head start Microsoft got in releasing its next gen console, and its early slew of great exclusives such as Mass Effect, Dead Rising, Gears of War and Halo 3, among others, yielded many early adopters who have begun their next gen libraries on the Xbox 360 and have no great reason to shell out for another expensive console. This year may be poised to change that.
In 2008, the PS3 will follow Metal Gear Solid 4's magnificent success with big titles such as Little Big Planet, Resistance 2, Killzone 2. These all make nice additions to the PS3's exclusive lineup, which already includes critically acclaimed titles like Uncharted, Ratche & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Warhawk, and Heavenly Sword. There are games worth playing on the PS3 now.
Furthermore, because exclusivity is becomi... More »
When the PSP first launched in North America on March 24, 2005, it revolutionized portable media forever with its ability to play videos, music and display pictures all while being a powerful gaming machine.
Since then, it gained even more functionality with a built-in Web browser, Skype functionality and connectivity with the Playstation 3. When the Playstation Portable (PSP) 2000 or 'Lite' model was released, it had all the quirks of the original model but answered consumer demands with the additional Video-Out socket which allows users to output video to any progressive television.
At the Leipzig Games Convention, Sony officially announced the newest chapter in the life of the PSP by revealing the PSP 3000 (or PSP "Brite", as dubbed in the blogosphere). The PSP Brite is just as thick, weighs the same and even has the same battery life as its predecessor, the PSP Lite. This newer model, however, consists of many ergonomic and aesthetic changes while offeri... More »
