217w ago - Today Sony's Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has shared a TGS 2009 Quantum Theory PS3 update video from Tecmo, as follows:
Last time we saw Quantum Theory was at E3 2009, and the game was so early as to not even be playable.
Now with this gothic 3rd person shooter at about the 50% point in development, Tecmo allowed us to go hands on before granting us an interview with Director Makoto Shibata.
The playthrough helped us come up with a number of questions about the game, as did you readers. Here are the answers, as translated by Localization Producer Peter Garza:
I apologize for the fact that I'm practically yelling at Shibata-san; this dude over at the neighboring Alienware booth was incredibly, obnoxiously loud. If you were there, you know who I'm talking about.
Anyways, with a good deal more development to go, we'll keep tabs on this game for you, and report back at the next milestone.
236w ago - Ever since the revealing trailer since October last year, information of Quantum Theory (tentative title) has been kept quiet... until now.
Here is a rough translation of the scans: Quantum Theory is a new action game from Tecmo with over the top battles taken place within a tower which changes it's structures over time.
With the tower shifting (Diabloizes) it's shape over time, it is eroding into the world endangering the people around. Many have tried to invade the tower to stop the erosion, but all have died. Now a man crossing over all the corpses that failed before him, has risen to challenge the tower.
The main character Sid, carrying a machine gun named "Grave Digger", will meet his partner Feleena inside the tower working towards the same goal of stopping the tower. Feleena carries a gun that will turn into a light saber during close combat. Players will need to adapt to the changing environments within the tower and fight accordingly.
Under release info, only a release date of 2010 is given. Categorized under "SF Action" and the genre is "Action/Shooting". It lists that the game will have PlayStation Network support but nothing is said about if it's 1 or multiplayer.
On the 2nd page of the scan it says that Feleena will act on her own, sometimes fighting...
252w ago - One of Tecmo's most prominent developers,, Keisuke Kikuchi, has revealed that the PS3 just worked better when developing Quantum Theory. The dev also admitted that the upcoming shooter is most comparable to Gears of War.
To quote: In an interview published today on Kikizo, one of Tecmo's most prominent development staff, Keisuke Kikuchi, said that PS3 "worked better" for them in developing the upcoming shooter Quantum Theory - but admits the game is most comparable to Gears of War.
"Initially, the game concept was built around this game being a PC game... the project was altered slightly, and we tested out the graphics and visual presentation on the PS3. And looking at that, we were pretty confident that we were going to be able to display and execute what we wanted to using the power of the PS3."
He explained that the environmental detail From The trailer was something they wanted to push, adding: "we just thought the PS3 worked better for us."
257w ago - The PS3 had a stellar video game lineup in 2008, but with 2009 in full swing many PS3 gamers will probably be wondering what new game will blind-side them this year.
There are many big name sequels coming out this year that will obviously sell millions. However, I will take a look at the one game that I think will be the sleeper hit on the PS3.
There are many great games coming out on the PS3 that will probably sell millions such as: Killzone 2, God of War III, Uncharted 2, Infamous, Heavy Rain and Twisted Metal. However, the sleeper hit of 2009 for the PS3 is a game that just blind-sides you without even see it coming.
I have to say Quantum Theory by Tecmo is my pick for the PS3 exclusive sleeper hit of 2009. I talked about this game before comparing it to Gears of War. Gears of War currently stands alone in its own specific genre. Yes, I know there are other third person shooters with cover system such as Uncharted. However, Gears of War is known for its gritty gory violence and slow cumbersome beefy guys that can't jump.
The reason why Gears of War is so good is because it is like a summer action flick. It has all the right ingredients for the adolescent teenager: cursing, gore, senseless violence and over the top macho bravado. In a similar way, Tecmo aims to provide competition...
