One of the most widely used menus for eCFW on the PS Vita is about to receive a full update, lots of new features, improved code, optimizations, and much more will come with pyMenu 0.4 and you’re about to see what it can offer, but first we’ll do a walkthrough of all the version pyMenu has had and how it has evolved from being a very simplistic menu, to a full fledged XMB replacement.
pyMenu 0.1: The beginning
pyMenu was created in June 2012 as an entry to the VHBL Menu Contest and competed against yMenu (which was also created for that contest). Most of the work in pyMenu had gone to installing the pspsdk and modifying the python interpreter to be able to load homebrews in VHBL.
The little time I had and the time the SDK + interpreter consumed left me with very little time for the actual menu. pyMenu was a pioneer in...
23w ago - Following up on PS Vita Firmware v2.01 release and Half Byte Loader news, today wololo has posted a video of eCFW 6.60 TN-C from The_Z running on PS Vita System Software version 2.01 with details below.
From his blog: The_Z shows us some more work from Frostegater, who is in possession of a PS Kernel exploit and was able to port Total_Noob’s CEF (a PSP custom firmware running in the PSP emulator of the Vita.
The video shows the Vita running an iso of K-On, as well as PSP Filer, and gPSP, the GameBoy advance emulator.
For some of you this is old news (we already mentioned Frostegater has a PSP Kernel exploit), and I’m sure we’ll see a share of complaints in the form of “if you show it, release it”, but hey, this shows that a PSP CFW inside of the Vita on the latest firmware is still possible, and hope is good, I guess.
So what about a release date? Well this is where it gets tricky. Frostegater does plan to release his work, but his Vita was stolen so he cannot make efficient progress on the work. As you will see in the video, him and The_Z are trying...
From the included ReadMe file: Vita FTP - Developed by Coldbird - Team PRO
This is a FTP Client for the PS Vita. Launch this FTP Homebrew via a HBL (e.g. HBL r160 via Monster Hunter) and then connect with your PC Browser to the given IP, it may be this one ftp://192.168.1.5, you should be able to see the memory stick directories of your PS Vita memory card, but just the stuff inside of the PSP Emulator.
Have fun transferring files without the CMA.
1. VHBL. You must have the Vita Half-Byte Loader for one of the firmware 1.67-1.80. This works on 1.80 MHFU VHBL.
36w ago - Today PlayStation Vita hacker freddy_156 announced that UVLoader, a usermode PS Vita loader, is now under development and the project is currently seeking the assistance of the community.
To quote from wololo's blog: Sure, running PSP homebrews on Vita is fun, and VHBL is a very nice piece of work, but it's about time we move on, isn't it?
Developer yifanlu started a new project called Usermode Vita Loader (UVLoader), it will be a homebrew loader for the PSV, basically. Not PSP homebrews, but native PSV code, isn't it awesome?
This project is based on a PSV exploit he found (there are no details about this for now, for obvious reasons), but it's still in its early stages. Just a few lines of code have been written so far (you can find the code on his github (github.com/yifanlu/UVLoader)), so, back to the title, developers are needed.
If you're a developer and you want to help, fork the project on github or get in touch with yifanlu on /talk or on IRC (#vitadev on EFnet).
If you're not a developer, there's nothing for you... yet. But it's still an awesome news, isn't it? And please, avoid asking useless questions: there's no release date yet and it doesn't work for now, just be patient for now and let the developers do their job.
